Keywords Short Description Translational clinical research on inflammatory skin disease

Prof. Campione contributed to the optimization of the clinical use of human immunoglobulins in the treatment of toxic epidermal necrolysis (Acta Derm Venereol. 2003, Archives Dermatol. 2003). Prof. Campione has validated the clinical use of immunosuppressive drugs, use of local and systemic retinoids and anti-TNF in the treatment of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis (Pediatric Dermatology 2007, Acta 2008, British Journal of Dermatology 2010). Prof Campione is engaged in various projects and clinical trials about the pathogenesis and the treatment of psoriasis and arthropatic psoriasis

Translational research

Prof. Campione has coordinated clinical trials in medical therapies in the treatment of non-melanoma-skin-cancers, in particular, validated the efficacy of retinoid drugs, immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory for local use (British Journal of Dermatology 2004, Journal of Investigative in

Dermatology 2004, Journal of Dermatological Treatment 2009, Clinical and Experimental Dermatology 2003). Prof Campione has obtained three patens the first on the use of piroxicam in the treatment of precancerous skin (American Journal of Clinical Dermatology 2010) The second is about the use of tazarotene in onychomycosis (Drugs Design and Development) (2014) The third is an European Patens is the use of all-transretinoic acid in systemic Aspergillus Fumigatus and Candida Albicans (Drugs Design and Development) (2016)

Translational clinical research on genodermatosis

Prof Campione is engaged in clinical-pathological studies on different genodermatosis to identify new prognostic markers.(Journal of Investigative Dermatology 2007, Research Project AIFA 2008: Identification of new biomolecular markers for the early diagnosis and possible therapeutic targets in patients with leiomyomatosis-related syndromes)

Translational clinical research on cutaneous skin cancers and pharmacological applications Translational clinical research on cutaneous infective and systemic skin pathologies combined with fungi and pharmacological applications

Prof..Campione has contributed to the experimentation and definition of protocols for the employment of topical drugs with direct anti-neoplastic activity for the treatment of epithelial cancers (ichthyosis keratosis, basocellular and squamocellular carcinomas). In particular, she has validated the efficacy of retinoid (tazarotene), immune-regulator (imiquimod e ingenolo mebutato) and non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (FANS, such as piroxicam for local use). In 2011, dott. Campione obtained the patent for piroxicam utilization for the treatment and prevention of cutaneous pre-cancers (ichthyosis keratosis). Studies on this topics have been object of publication on national/international journals. Moreover, piroxicam activity has been studied at the level of molecular docking in collaboration with Bioinformatics Department of Tor Vergata University (American Journal of Clinical Dermatology, Drugs Design, Development and Therapy, Current Medical Research and Opinion). Prof. Campione works in collaboration with the Microbiology Unit of Tor Vergata University for the evaluation of molecules with anti-fungal action in the treatment of dermatophytosis. To date, two retinoid molecules have been patented after demonstration of their anti-fungal effects in vitro, in vivo and in preclinical models. The first research consists of the utilization of a third-generation retinoid (tazarotene) for the local treatment of onimychosis supported by Trichophytes and Yeasts (Candida Albicans) species. The second research deals with the direct anti-fungal effect of transretinoid acid on Aspergillus Fumigatus and Candida Albicans.

1) Psiconeuroendocrinologia della vita riproduttiva

Approccio integrato psicobiologico agli eventi critici riproduttivi e ai disturbi correlati al ciclo mestruale, in particolare l’amenorrea ipotalamica, la sindrome premestruale, l'emicrania mestruale/correlata all’uso di ormoni e la sindrome menopausale.

2) Sessualità femminile

Studio dei determinanti biopsicosociali che influenzano la funzione sessuale della donna e della coppia nell’arco di vita, con sviluppo di strumenti diagnostici e terapeutici.

3) Eventi neuroendocrini, stress e funzione ovulatoria

Chiarificazione dei processi neuroendocrini stress-correlati che influenzano la funzione ovulatoria e l’infertilità di coppia con particolare riguardo al dimorfismo sessuale dei meccanismi neuromolecolari della risposta di stress.

4) Peptidi ovarici: implicazioni fisiopatologiche

Contributo alla comprensione dei meccanismi paracrini e autocrini gonadici che influenzano la funzione riproduttiva e la fertilità.
