La nuova collezione di arredi disegnata da Gilad per Molteni&C è

contraddistinta da forme geometriche essenziali. Tutto è costituito da forme

tipicamente sostanziali e rappresenta l’acume elegante e lo spirito ironico

con cui Gilad mette in dubbio la nostra relazione con gli oggetti del nostro

quotidiano. Tavoli grandi e piccoli, armadi, librerie, specchi e mensole giocano

concettualmente e materialmente con elementi rivoluzionari, trasformandosi

così in oggetti che ci affascinano e conquistano. I piani vengono ruotati

e smussati; in particolare i tavoli in legno e vetro e le librerie creano uno

spostamento che da un angolo di 90° passa a uno di 45° senza spigoli; un cubo

viene estratto dal suo volume lasciando un vuoto sottolineato da un segno

di vernice rossa Scaffali rossi penetrano la parete con un gesto passionale che

mette in discussione la nostra percezione di pareti e mensole. L’uso dei colori

primari in questa collezione reitera le forme essenziali che la caratterizzano.

‘Panna-cotta’, delicato e pesante e allo stesso tempo, paradosso della stabilità

fragile, mentre i tavolini da caffè e la console a “scatola aperta”, di cui

vediamo solo i contorni. Elementi di luce pura che sembrano rimandare a

tesori nascosti. Sebbene il lavoro di Gilad abbracci storia, cultura e tradizione

e sia piacevole dal punto di vista estetico, esso va al di là del "buon gusto"

in modo provocatorio. Attraverso i suoi dubbi costanti e la sua innata

insoddisfazione ci guida, come il pifferaio magico, e noi seguiamo volentieri

la sua musica entrando in un mondo in cui le convenzioni e la sicurezza sono

rovesciati per cedere il posto a un mondo in cui l’estremo e l’assurdo sono la

nuova normalità.

Ron Gilad’s work insists that we seriously consider the sweet fruits of

dissatisfaction. Gilad’s new collection of furniture for Molteni&C continues

his signature probing of the basic geometric form. Though comprised of

typically pared down forms, all embody his elegant wit and ironic vision

questioning our relationship to the everyday objects in our lives. Tables

large and small, cupboards, bookshelves, mirrors and wall shelving, play

conceptually and materially with subversive elements allowing for a

transformation into objects that intrigue and delight us. Planes are rotated and

blunted, notably the wooden and glass tables and bookshelf units, creating

a shift form the 90 degrees to the 45 degrees corner with no edge, a cube is

extracted from its volume leaving a void which, no longer there, is indicated

by its ghost in red paint, red shelves pierce the wall in a visceral gesture that

challenges our perception about both wall and shelves. The use of primary

colors in this collection, reiterates the fact of its basic forms. ‘Pana-cotta’, both

heavy and delicate, poses the paradox of fragile stability, while the ‘open box’

outlined coffee tables and console are pure open lightness suggesting hidden

treasures. Though Gilad’s work encompasses history, culture and tradition,

his constant questioning and innate dissatisfaction he leads us, like the Pied

Piper, and we gladly follow his music entering a world where convention

and safety are upended giving way to a world where the subversive and the

absurd are the new normal.

Gli oggetti ibridi di Ron Gilad abbinano l’ingegno concreto al gioco estetico.

Le sue opere raccontano la relazione tra l’oggetto e la sua funzione, mettendo

in discussione la percezione umana. Il suo lavoro, che spazia dai pezzi unici

alle edizioni limitate sino alla produzione di serie, non ha “data di scadenza”

e fa parte delle collezioni sia pubbliche che private di tutto il mondo.

Gilad pone incessanti domande in formato tridimensionale e congegna

risposte che creano un campo di fertile dubbio. In senso metaforico potremmo

dire che Gilad è un linguista che crea un linguaggio proprio. Studia le origini

delle “parole” e sviluppa nuovi “sinonimi”.

Ron Gilad’s hybrid objects combine material wit with aesthetic play. They sit

on the fat, delicious line between the abstract and the functional. His works

deal with the relationship between the object and its function, questioning

our perceptions. Varying from one-off to limited editions and production

pieces, the works have no “expiration date” and reside in both public and

private collections worldwide. Gilad asks unceasing questions in 3D form

and fabricates answers that create an arena for fertile doubt. Metaphorically,

Gilad is a linguist, creating his own language. He learns the origins of “words”

and develops “synonyms”.
