notre belle Principauté de Monaco à l’occasion de la première édition du Monte-Carlo Padel Master.Mes premiers remerciements iront à S.A.S. le Prince Albert II qui a permis la tenue de cet évé-nement d’une dimension internationale au cœur de la Principauté. Remerciements également à S.A.S. la Princesse Stéphanie sans laquelle nous n’aurions pu nous retrouver sous le Chapiteau de Fontvieille. Enfin, que les autorités et les services monégasques soient aussi remerciés ici pour l’aide efficace qu’ils nous ont apportée dans des délais resserrés.Pour un joueur de padel comme moi, organiser un Master dans son pays est un rêve devenu ré-alité. Les 28 meilleurs joueurs mondiaux sont au rendez-vous de la compétition. Je souhaite que le Monte Carlo Padel Master devienne une ren-contre incontournable du calendrier monégasque et puisse contribuer au rayonnement de ce sport dans notre belle région.Monte-Carlo International Sports, société orga-nisatrice du tournoi, a été créée pour développer le padel dans le monde entier. Elle pilote le padel féminin en Argentine et sponsorise les plus grands joueurs du monde comme les plus prometteurs : Juan-Martin Diaz - plus grand joueur du monde -, Maxi Sánchez (6ème mondial), Juani Mieres (8ème mondial), Marta Ortega (11ème mondiale), le couple Andrés Britos - Elías Estrella et aussi les jeunes Delfina Brea - Aranzazu Osoro.Monte-Carlo International Sports réalise la Fa-brice Pastor Cup, qui se déroule en Argentine (Buenos Aires), au Chili et au Brésil. Dear Monegasque friends and dear padel lovers,I am delighted to welcome you to our beau-

tiful Principality of Monaco to celebrate the first edition of the Monte-Carlo Padel Master.First of all, my thanks will go to S.A.S. Prince Al-bert, who has allowed this event of international dimensions to be held at the heart of the Princi-pality. My thanks also to S.A.S. Princess Stéph-anie, without whom we would not have been able to meet under the Chapiteau de Fontvieille. Finally, the Monegasque authorities and services must be thanked for the efficient help they have given us within tight deadlines.For a padel player like me, organising a Master in his own country is a dream come true. The 28 best world players will take part in the competition. I

wish for the Monte-Carlo Padel Master to become a major event on the Monegasque agenda and for it to contribute to the spreading of this sport in our beautiful region.Monte-Carlo International Sports, the company who organises the tournament, was set up to de-velop padel throughout the world. It runs women’s padel in Argentina and sponsors the major world players and the most promising ones: Juan Martin Diaz (2nd best player in the world), Maxi Sánchez (world nº 6), Juani Mieres (world nº 8), Marta Orte-ga (world nº 11), the couple Andrés Britos - Elias Estrella and also the young players Delfina Brea - Aranzazu Osoro.Monte-Carlo International Sports directs the Fab-rice Pastor Cup, which takes place in Argentina (Buenos Aires), in Chile and in Brazil. It enables

Bienvenue au Monte-Carlo Padel Master, un tournoi qui marquera l´histoire du padel.

Cést un très grand plaisir et une énorme res-ponsabilité d’accueillir les meilleurs joueurs du monde à l’occasion de la première édition du World Padel Tour à Monte-Carlo et de participer au rêve de Fabrice Pastor de déployer le padel dans le monde.

L´équipe de Monte-Carlo International Sports a beaucoup travaillé au succès de cet événement, point de départ de la découverte de ce sport dans le monde. Le Master de Monaco est sans aucun doute un jalon dans l’histoire du padel car il marque le début d’une nouvelle étape pour ce sport dans les pays non hispanophones.

Je souhaite adresser un remerciement particulier à S.A.S. le Prince Albert II pour son soutien et à S.A.S. la Princesse Stéphanie qui nous permet d’utiliser un espace magnifique comme le Chapi-teau de Fontvieille. Je n’oublie pas toutes les auto-rités monégasques qui nous ont aidé à mettre en place cet événement et nous ont fourni toute l’aide nécessaire à sa tenue.

Personnellement je me sens très fier de faire partie dúne équipe de professionnels qui croient et sím-pliquent dans le développement du padel avec des projets concrets et avec lámbition de faire du Monte-Carlo Padel Master le tournoi le plus im-portant du monde. Cette édition sera retransmise simultanément en espagnol et en anglais. Elle sera sans aucun doute un élément essentiel dans léxpansion internationale du padel.

It is a great pleasure and a big responsibility to welcome the best world players in this first edition of the World Padel Tour in Monte-Carlo

and to collaborate to accomplish the dream of Fabrice Pastor to develop the padel internation-ally.

All the team of Monte-Carlo International Sports has worked hard so that they can enjoy a great event, and certainly the starting point to publi-cize the sport worldwide. The Master of Monaco will be a landmark in the history of padel as it represents the beginning of a new professional career for this sport in non-Spanish speaking countries.

My special thanks to S.A.S. Prince Albert II for his support, to S.A.S. Princess Stephanie for letting us a magnificent space as the Chapiteau de Font-vieille and to the Monegasque authorities, who helped us to prepare this event facilitating all the arrangements to set it up.

C’est un grand honneur de pouvoir compter sur la Principauté de Monaco, comme site officiel d’un tournoi international du World Padel Tour. Monte-Carlo est un site très exclusif pour le sport international.

En effet, la Principauté est le siège chaque année d’évènements sportifs importants comme le Grand Prix Automobile, le Master de Tennis ou encore le Rallye Automobile… et cette année s’y ajoute une des étapes internationales du circuit mondial de padel, le World Padel Tour.

Le World Padel Tour est le circuit professionnel de référence du padel au plan mondial, où se ren-contrent les principaux joueurs professionnels. Ce jeune sport s’est développé au niveau profession-nel au cours des dernières vingt années. Après ses

débuts en Argentine, l’Espagne est le pays où les principaux tournois ont été le plus souvent organi-sés pendant la dernière décennie.

C’est maintenant que le padel commence à émer-ger avec force dans la sphère internationale. Il est actuellement un des sports ayant un rayonne-ment international majeur. Chaque jour un grand nombre de nouveaux fans et d’adeptes trouvent dans ce sport le meilleur équilibre entre exercice physique et relations sociales.

Le Monte-Carlo Padel Master pourra être suivi aux quatre coins de la planète grâce à la retransmis-sion live en streaming sur le site web officiel du WPT. La retransmission sera pour la première fois en anglais et en espagnol et suivie par les millions de fans du monde entier.

Monte-Carlo, an international exclusive sports venue that hosts every year important events such as the Formula One Grand Prix, the Tennis Mas-ters or the Monte-Carlo Rallye, will host one of the international events of the world padel circuit, World Padel Tour.

World Padel Tour is the world leading profes-sional circuit that gathers the main profes-sional players. This young sport has profes-sionally bloomed for the last 20 years. Although

it flourished in Argentina, over the last decade the main tournaments became more relevant in Spain. Today, it starts actively to expand worldwide.

Currently, padel is one of the sports with a wid-er scope internationally. It adds every day a large number of enthusiasts and players that find this sport the best way of joining together and promot-ing exercise and relationships.

dans le circuit officiel des tournois de la Fédéra-tion Internationale de Padel (FIP) est un pas im-portant pour l’établissement de notre sport dans la Principauté de Monaco.C’est un grand plaisir pour la Fédération interna-tionale d’avoir Monaco comme nouvelle destina-tion où pratiquer le padel tous les jours et comme base de développement de notre sport.Nous sommes très conscients de l’importance de Monaco dans le monde sportif et pour notre sport. En effet, avec la bienveillance de S.A.S. le Prince Albert de Monaco - et son rôle au Comité Olym-pique -, nous nous inscrivons dans la continuité de l’histoire de la famille Grimaldi de parrainer les événements les plus importants dans différentes disciplines telles que la voile, le marathon, le vélo, le tennis ou les courses automobiles. Nous faisons maintenant partie de cette famille. Nous en sommes très fiers et voudrions remercier les promoteurs et fans de padel de Monaco pour leur action.Nous observons la progression d’un très grand intérêt pour le padel à l’échelle mondiale. Cette croissance continue a été facilitée par l’intérêt manifesté par les médias spécialisés, les ins-titutions sportives, les fabricants, les meilleurs joueurs, les personnes engagées dans des pro-grammes éducatifs, des entreprises de gestion d’événements et les entités politiques.La croissance rapide de cette discipline a engen-dré une étape de qualification pour le Champion-

nat du Monde de Padel qui a eu lieu à Majorque l’année dernière. Certains pays ont donc été élimi-nés et n’ont pu participer au principal événement de la FIP. Le prochain grand rendez-vous de la FIP aura lieu à Mexico à l’occasion des championnats du monde junior de padel avec un très haut niveau de participation. Aujourd’hui, la Fédération internationale de Padel, regroupe 24 membres associés, principalement d’Amérique et d’Europe, mais aussi des membres en Asie et en Australie. Le Conseil d’administra-tion de la FIP analyse de nombreuses autres can-didatures que nous espérons approuver.De plus en plus courts de padel se construisent en Europe, non seulement en Espagne, où le padel est déjà largement représenté, mais aussi en France, Italie, Belgique, Royaume-Uni, Scandinavie et pays d’Europe orientale. Nous observons aussi des manifestations d’intérêt en Amérique Centrale et

Master in the official International Padel Federa-tion (IPF) Tournament Schedule, is a most impor-tant step forward towards establishing our great sport of padel in the Principality of Monaco.It is truly a big pleasure for the International Padel Federation to have Monaco as a new place to prac-tice padel every day and to also have such a pres-tigious location for the development of our sport.We are all aware of the importance of having Mon-te-Carlo represented in our sport starting with the interest shown by Prince Albert of Monaco for all sports, in his role with the International Olympic Committee, and in continuation with the history witnessed by the Grimaldi family, always spon-soring the most important events such as sailing, marathons, bicycling, tennis, cars racing and For-mula 1, and now padel is included in the list of sports played in Monaco. We are all very proud to have reached this objective and above all thank-ing the promoters and padel fans from Monaco.Recently we have seen an impressive and continuous interest shown for padel in World-wide scale. The con-tinued growth of padel has been aided by the interest

shown by the specialised media, the sport institutions, the manufacturers, top players, people engaged in educational programmes, event management com-panies, and state political entities.The rapid growth of our sport necessitated a qualifying round be held to qualify for our last World Padel Cham-pionships held last year in Mallorca which meant that some countries were eliminated from participation in the main IPF event. The next major IPF Event, will be held in Mexico DF who are hosting the World Junior Padel Championships which has now also reached its highest level of participation in our history.Today we have 24 Associate Members that make up the International Padel Federation, mainly in America and Europe, but also members from Asia and Austral-ia. The IPF Board of Directors is also analysing many other applications that we hope to approve.More and more padel courts are being built in Europe, not only in Spain where padel is already widely exploit-ed, but also in France, Italy, Belgium, UK, Scandinavia and Eastern European countries. Expressions of inter-est are also coming from Central and South America: Costa Rica, San Salvador, Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador, who would like to join.The positive results reached in the region have caused Chile and Brazil to continue to build padel

courts expanding the sport along the big coun-tries, as Mexico and USA in the North America. Middle East and African countries already built their first facilities.The level of competition and quality of events continues to increase as the increasing number of events that are now included in the Official Tour-naments Schedule that is spreading all around the world. The number of participants with offi-cial licences taking part and also the quality of the events itself are every day more professionally organized.Even as we reach significant growth we are not satisfied as we know much work still needs to be carried out to promote padel institutionally and by maintain our level of official activities in order to seriously establish our sport around the world, so that someday our children and their children will continue to enjoy playing padel.

Le Costa Rica, San Salvador, le Venezuela, la Colombie et l’Équateur souhaite-raient nous rejoindre.Les résultats positifs obtenus dans la région ont incité le Chili et le Brésil à bâtir de nouveaux courts de padel, contribuant ainsi à l´expansion du sport au Mexique et aux États-Unis. Le Moyen-Orient et les pays africains construisent aussi leurs premières installations.Le niveau de concurrence et de qualité des évé-nements continue à progresser au même rythme que le nombre d’événements inclus dans le ca-lendrier des tournois officiels du monde. Ainsi, les joueurs (avec des licences officielles) participants aux tournois et les événements eux-mêmes s’or-ganisent chaque jour de manière plus profession-nelle.Malgré notre progression importante, nous ne sommes pas encore satisfaits. Nous avons encore beaucoup de travail à faire pour promouvoir le pa-del auprès des institutions. Nous devons mainte-nir notre niveau d’activités officielles afin d’ancrer profondément notre sport dans le monde, pour qu’un jour nos enfants et leurs enfants puissent continuer à jouer au padel.

Pour la première fois de son histoire, une étape du championnat du monde de padel se tiendra dans la Principauté de Monaco. Le

Monte-Carlo Padel Master marquera un tournant dans l’histoire de ce jeune sport qui compte moins de cinquante ans d’existence et déjà captivé des millions de fans dans le monde entier.

Le padel est apparu au niveau professionnel dans les années 90 en Argentine. Il s’est maintenant tellement enraciné en Espagne que c’est devenu le pays où se concentre toute l’activité du circuit professionnel.

Au début des années 2000, les meilleurs profession-nels du monde se sont installés en Espagne pour disputer un circuit d’une douzaine de tournois par an. À partir de là, le padel a connu une large expansion avec la construction de nombreux courts dans toutes les régions d’Espagne et c’est pourquoi le nombre de joueurs est aujourd’hui supérieur à 3 millions.

À partir de 2013, après la création du World Padel Tour, le circuit s’améliore considérablement en matière d’installation et d’organisation. L’objectif principal étant une expansion internationale de l’évènement. Pendant les deux premières années,

l’Argentine et le Portugal ont été les premières destinations visées, mais cette année nous comp-tons deux nouveaux rendez-vous internationaux importants : Monte-Carlo et Dubaï.

Des événements comme celui-ci, avec une organi-sation inégalable, aideront à l’exportation du pa-del vers d’autres pays d’Europe et Amérique pour amener progressivement la discipline sur les cinq continents.

By the very first time, a tournament from the padel professional circuit will be played in the Principality of Monaco. The Monte-Carlos

Padel Master will be a turning point in the life of this young sport with less than 50 years of life that little by little has been getting millions of support-ers around the world.

Padel professionally appeared in Argentina during the 90s. Then it had a huge growth in Spain when all the circuit activity takes place nowadays.

At the beginning of the XXI century, the best padel professionals in the world settled down in Spain in order to play a circuit that had an average of 12 tournaments a year. It was then that padel began to expand as a sport and many courts were built around Spanish regions. Currently, there are more than 3 millions padel players.

From 2013 on, thanks to the creation of World Padel Tour, the circuit took a quality leap in re-lation to organization and facilities. Its main goal was expanding the event internationally.

During the first two years, Argentina and Portu-gal were the international venues. This year two important places have joined: Monte-Carlo and Dubai.

This kind of events, with an incomparable setting up, will be the springboard to keep exporting padel to other European and American countries until being able to be on the five continents.

gnoles. La signature de l’accord entre Monte-Car-lo International Sports et le World Padel Tour en décembre dernier préfigure un développement très ambitieux. En effet, comme l’explique Fabrice Pastor, PDG de Monte-Carlo International Sports et joueur de padel passionné: « Nous avons bien en-tendu l’ambition de développer le padel à Monaco, mais aussi de transmettre la fièvre qui se vit pour ce sport en Espagne et en Amérique Latine dans

Monte-Carlo Inter-national Sports accompagne ce développement géographique par la mise en œuvre d’une politique active de découverte du padel auprès des jeunes générations. Lóuverture dún club dans le Sud de la France est en projet et une école sera créée à Monaco en 2016, la “Nito Brea Padel School”. The arrival of the World Padel Tour at Monaco marks the first step of the internationalisa-tion of the circuit, limited to Spanish towns

up until now. The agreement signed between Mon-te-Carlo International Sports and the World Padel Tour last December heralds a very ambitious devel-opment. Indeed, as stated by Fabrice Pastor, CEO of Monte-Carlo International Sports and a passionate padel player: ‘It is of course our ambition to develop padel in Monaco but also to transmit the enthusi-asm felt for this sport in Spain and Latin America to

every corner of the planet’. Monte-Carlo International Sports combines this geographical development with the implementation of an active policy of initiation to padel among the young generations. Nous sommes à la mi-saison et une paire s’est distinguée parmi les autres … Fernan-do Belasteguin et Pablo Lima. Numéro 1 du

classement World Padel Tour, la paire a gagné les cinq premiers tournois d’affilés et n’a perdu aucun match pour l’instant.

L’argentin Fernando Belasteguin, qui a joué pen-dant 13 ans dans la meilleure paire de l’histoire de ce sport avec Juan Martín Díaz, est actuellement à la tête du classement individuel. Il a remporté six des sept titres disputés jusqu’à ce jour : deux avec le joueur vétéran espagnol Willy Lahoz, et tous les autres avec son partenaire habituel, le brésilien Pablo Lima. Ce dernier a souffert d’une blessure lors du premier tournoi de la saison à Barcelone qui l’a empêchée d’assister aux tournois de San Fernando et La Palma (Espagne).

Face à cette domination absolue, trois paires semblent les plus capables d’interrompre cette hégémonie: Díaz-Sánchez, Navarro-Díaz et Mieres-Gutiérrez.

S’il est vrai que les trois paires ont été victimes des “prédateurs”, il est aussi vrai que les matchs ont été égalés. La plus grande défaite ayant été à la finale du dernier Master de Malaga face à Juan Martín Díaz et Maxi Sánchez.

Paquito Navarro et Matías Díaz ont remporté la victoire du Master de Barcelona, quand Lima a abandonné sur blessure. C’est donc la seule dé-faite de Bela-Lima à ce jour. Ils se sont rencontrés ensuite à plusieurs occasions et ratent la victoire contre les leaders lors de la finale de l’Open de

Valladolid (Espagne). lls perdent finalement à la suite de trois tie-breaks.

Depuis la défaite à Barcelone, le nombre de ses victoires a augmenté. Belasteguin a joué 32 des 33 matchs possibles cette année et en a gagné 31. Avec Lima, ils comptent 19 victoires, dans lesquelles ils ont cédé seulement 4 sets. Un durant la finale d’Argen-tine face à Sanyo Gutiérrez et Maxi Sánchez, un autre lors des quarts de finales de Valladolid face à Miguel Lamperti et Adrián Allemandi, et les derniers face à Paquito Navarro et Matías Díaz (un en demi-finale d’Argentine et l’autre en finale à Valladolid).

Lors des deux derniers tournois, l’Open de Ma-jorque et le Master de Malaga, ils sont champions sans céder un set et ils ont battu à deux occasions la paire numéro 2, Juan Martín Díaz-Maxi Sánchez (6/4 et 6/0 à Majorque - 7/6 et 6/3 à Malaga)

SANS SURPRISES DANS LES DERNIERS TOURNOISAprès un début de saison marqué par quelques résultats surprenants, surtout au Master de Bar-celone où David Gutiérrez et Luciano Capra sont arrivés en finale, dans les autres tournois, les huit meilleures paires ont atteints les phases finales.

Les quatre meilleures paires sont arrivées en de-mi-finales à Majorque et Malaga, et comme nous l’avons déjà observé, il existe une différence entre eux et les autres paires.

Fede Quiles et Jordi Muñoz forment une paire qui a agréable-ment surpris et sur laquelle nous pouvons garder un œil attentif. À Malaga ils ont éliminé Paquito et Matías en huitièmes de final.

Dans cette lutte pour être parmi les huit meilleures paires du circuit et atteindre le Master Final de Madrid, Gaby Reca et Seba Nerone sont dans la pire situation. Leur classement est tombé à la neuvième place et ils ont perdu les matchs face à leurs rivaux directs. Néanmoins, ils ont des qua-lités et suffisamment d’expérience pour inverser la situation dans la deuxième moitié de la saison, même si son niveau est très relevé.

Nous verrons aussi comment joue la paire espa-gnole, Aday Santana et Willy Lahoz. L’expérimenté joueur madrilène, qui a obtenu deux titres cette année avec Fernando Belasteguin, se lie une fois de plus à Santana pour se maintenir dans les meilleures places.

Pour le moment, dans les deux tournois auxquels ils ont participé, ils ont perdu face aux deux meil-leures paires en quart de finales (à Majorque face à Belasteguin - Lima et à Malaga face à Díaz et Sánchez).

BELASTEGUIN-LIMA DOMINATES THE CIRCUIT

Half the season has passed and one couple has stood out from the rest… Fernando Belasteguin and Pablo Lima. The couple ranked number 1 by

World Padel Tour has won the last five tournaments in a row. Up to now they have only lost one match during their first year playing together.

Fernando Belasteguin from Argentina, who together with Juan Martín Díaz was the padel best couple ever for 13 years, currently is the league sole leader, winning six out of the seven tournaments played up to now. He won two of them with the Spanish experienced player Willy Lahoz and the rest ones with his usual playmate, Pablo Lima from Brazile, who due to an injury during the season first tournament in Barcelona missed San Fernando and La Palma tournaments.

Regarding this context of leadership, three couples appear as the most capable ones for ending up with this supremacy: Díaz-Sánchez, Navarro-Díaz and Mieres-Gutiérrez.

Even though it is true that the three couples have been defeated by them, it is also true that they have been evenly-matched plays. In fact, they experienced their great suffering in the final from the last Malaga Master against Juan Martín Díaz and Maxi Sánchez.

Paquito Navarro and Matías Díaz won the Barcelona Master, when Lima pulled out because of an injury. Con-sequently, that is Bela-Lima’s only defeat within this year.Afterwards, they have come face to face several times

and they were close than ever to beat the leaders in the Valladolid Open, where they lost by three tie-breaks.

Since they lost in Barcelona, they have won all their match-es. Belasteguin has played 32 out of 33 matches this year and has won 31. Together with Lima they have won 19 matches in which they have only lost 4 sets. They lost one of them against Sanyo Guitiérrez and Maxi Sánchez in the Argentina final, another one against Miguel Lamperti and Adrián Allemandi in the Valladolid quarterfinals and two of them against Paquito Navarro and Matías Díaz (in the Argentina semifinal and Valladolid final).

In the last two tournaments, the Mallorca Open and the Malaga Master, they won without losing any set and de-feating the number 2 couple, Juan Martín Díaz and Maxi Sánchez, in the final (6/4 and 6/0 in Mallorca and 7/6 and 6/3 in Malaga).

NO SURPRISES IN THE LAST TWO TOURNAMENTS

After having a start of season with surprising results in the Barcelona Master mainly where David Gutiérrez and Luciano Capra managed to be in the final, in the last tournaments the eight best couples have been in the final rounds. The best four couples reached Mallorca and Mal-aga semifinals and, given what we have seen until now, there is a difference from the rest. Miguel Lamperti and Adrián Allemandi or Cristian Guitiérrez along with Agustín Gómoz Silingo may step forward to be in the definition.

We cannot forget Maxi Grabiel and Ramiro Moyano either. They have been together for only two tourna-ments, but they have enough means to play against anybody. Fede Quiles and Jordi Muñoz have given a pleasant surprise and they are a couple to take into account. In Malaga, they had all in their hands to beat Paquito and Matías in the last sixteen.

In the fight for being among the circuit eight best cou-ples and being able to play the final Master in Madrid, Gaby Reca and Seba Nerone are the ones in worst sit-uation. They have come down until the number 9 and they have lost their encounters against their direct oppo-nents. Although level is quite high, they have quality and experience enough to revert this situation in the second half of the season.

In addition, attention must be pay to the Spanish cou-ple’s performance, Aday Santana and Willy Lahoz. Lahoz, an experienced player from Madrid who has won two ti-tles this year together with Fernando Belasteguin, has trusted in Santana once more in order to keep the priv-ileged places. Up to now, they have been beaten by the two best couples in quarterfinals in the two tournaments played: in Mallorca by Belasteguin and Lima and in Mal-aga by Díaz and Sánchez.

Let’s see what happens in Monte-Carlo Padel Master and if anybody can end up with Belasteguin-Lima’s winning streak.

Juan Martín Díaz et Maxi Sán-chez sont actuellement la paire classée deuxième du classement

Le padel est un sport dérivé du tennis mais possé-dant sa propre technique. Le fait que des joueurs comme Fernando Belasteguin ou Sebastián Nerone

(parmi les plus célèbres) qui n’avaient jamais joué au tennis soient parvenus au premier et au troisième rang du classement mondial en est la preuve.Le padel a aussi des éléments en commun avec la pelote basque ou le « frontón ». Mais les bons joueurs de tennis qui commencent à jouer au padel sont les plus avanta-gés. Beaucoup des coups du padel ayant la même base technique qu’au tennis, ceux qui y jouaient et qui com-mencent ensuite le padel pourront tirer profit de mouve-ments qu’ils maîtrisent déjà. Ils devront faire attention à la manière de les transférer et d’en profiter pour pouvoir apprendre les coups et les notions propres au padel.Les joueurs de tennis pourront profiter de beaucoup de coups, à savoir : la volée, le coup avec top spin (liftés), avec effet slicé ou coupés, la demi-volée et le smash puissant (pour faire revenir la balle dans son camp ou pour la sortir après un rebond sur le mur du fond, par-dessus le grillage latéral de 3 mètres).

Conseil aux anciens joueurs de tennis voulant apprendre les coups du padel:Les murs : vous ne pourrez pas bien jouer au padel sans les murs. Apprivoisez-les coûte que coûte.

Variantes du smash : c’est sans doute un des coups les plus complexes du padel. Il en existe plusieurs va-riantes en fonction de l’endroit d’exécution et de la faci-lité ou de la difficulté de la position. Comme il s’agit d’un sport très aérien où l’on joue beaucoup de lobs, vous au-rez beaucoup de chances de les utiliser dans un match.Tous les smashes ne sont pas joués dans le but de marquer car, dans la plupart des situations, le smash sert à préparer le point (smash bandeja). Vous devrez apprendre les notions et la technique du smash pour ré-soudre les lobs des adversaires.

Le lob: c’est sans doute un des coups les plus impor-tants du padel. Cést aussi celui qui est le moins appré-cié. En effet, un joueur puissant qui marque beaucoup avec son smash attire beaucoup plus l’attention que ce-lui qui joue avec beaucoup de lobs et en se servant des erreurs de l’adversaire et des contre-attaques.Avant de vous convaincre d’utiliser le lob, j’ai quelque chose à avouer. Au bout de plus de vingt ans de cours, per-sonne n’est venu me demander de lui apprendre à faire un

lob. Tout le monde veut apprendre le smash. Pour quelles raisons ? Certains font une bandeja qui engendre beau-coup de rebonds, d’autres veulent, entre autres, mettre la pression avec le smash sur l’adversaire pour quíl nárrive pas à lober et finisse par se fatiguer.Cependant, je dis toujours à mes élèves : “Si tout le monde a du mal à faire le smash … Pourquoi ne pratiquez-vous pas les lobs afin de compliquer le jeu de vos adver-saires ? ». Quand vous aurez appris à vous défendre et que vous utiliserez correctement le lob, vous verrez que le padel est beaucoup plus simple qu’il ný paraît.

Apprenez à défendre et faites des lobs « Il n’y a pas beaucoup de joueurs puissants avec un bon smash, mais il y a beaucoup de joueurs qui exécutent de mauvais lobs »

Jouer une balle haute avec le mur – La contre-attaque : Jouer une balle renvoyée par le mur est un des coups ga gnants les plus importants du pa-del. Vous l’utiliserez pour attaquer après avoir récupéré un lob de l’adversaire au filet ou quand il fait un rebond au-delà du mur à la suite dún smash.

Ne vous forcez pas à chercher des espaces libres depuis le fond : En principe, n’essayez pas de gagner un point avec des passings ou des coups trop serrés en cherchant des espaces libres depuis le fond du court.Non seulement vous commettrez beaucoup d’erreurs, mais, en plus, vous offrirez un bon angle aux adversaires pour que leurs volées soient plus difficiles pour vous.

On n’attaque pas qu’au filet. Partez du fond et avancez dans le court : Apprenez à vous dé-fendre et à ne pas faire des fautes. Pour bien attaquer, vous devrez apprendre à bien vous défendre sinon vous choisirez mal les moments d’attaques car vous essaierez surtout de partir du fond. Vous devez d’abord être capable de ne pas faire de fautes et de vous dé-fendre face à tous les coups que l’adversaire exécute. Ces deux consignes vous permettront de choisir le bon moment pour attaquer.Servez à l’australienne : de cette manière, vous jouerez toujours du même côté du court et vous pourrez mieux vous orienter avec les murs.Au début, vous aurez du mal à vous orienter et à bien jouer avec les murs et si vous changez tout le temps de côté, vous mettrez davantage de temps à vous y habituer.

Mais cela est relatif. Si vous êtes un débutant, il vous conviendra d’apprendre à jouer des deux côtés. Vous pourrez ainsi changer de côté plus facilement. En plus, cela vous sera utile (sans servir à l’australienne) si vous ne montez pas au filet ou si vos efforts physiques posibles sont limités.

Profitez déxpériences communes : Si vous pensez au tennis ou à d’autres sports, vous verrez qu’il y a des points communs:• Ne faites pas de fautes. N’offrez pas de points faciles.• Le smash bandeja est similaire à celui qu’exécuterait

un joueur de tennis en reculant péniblement après un bon lob de l’adversaire. Vous remarquerez qu’il exécute le smash moitié moins vite afin de contrôler la balle et de prendre une position de défense au fond du court. Au padel, c’est pareil, mais en raison des murs du fond, vous aurez un problème additionnel : le rebond haut de la balle favorisera l’adversaire.

It would be fair to say that while it has its roots in ten-nis, padel can now attest to possessing its own unique technique. Players such as Fernando Belasteguin and

Sebastián Nerone (who are some of the best-known) are testament to this, as they reached first and third posi-tions in the world padel rankings yet did not arrive at the sport through tennis. Padel can also has some roots in the game pelota paleta, but there is no doubt that people who have been good at tennis are going to have the easiest time of taking up padel. Since in the two sports many shots share similar technique, former tennis players who take up padel will be able to take advantage of several of the resources that served them well in tennis. The most important thing is how they transfer and make the most of the knowledge they have, before going on and learning those shots and concepts that are unique to padel. Some of the useful shots include; the volleys, shots with top spin, slice, half volleys, the power smash to bring the ball back to your side of the court, hitting the ball out after the bounce off the back wall or over the 3-metre side wall.

I would advise former tennis players to learn the shots used in padel:The walls: Just as we have already seen, it is impossi-ble to play well without learning how to use them. You absolutely must make friends with the walls, there’s no way around it.

Different types of Smash: The smash is, without a doubt, one of the most complex shots in padel. There are several different types and which is used will depend on where players are positioned on the court and how comfortably they are able to take the shot. Since this is a quite an aerial sport where lobs are common, there is ample opportunity to use overheads in matches. Not all smashes are played with the aim of scoring; they are often played in order to set the point up (bandeja). Players will need to learn the concepts and the techniques necessary to be able to combat an opponent’s lobs.

The lob: This is definitely one of the most important shots in padel. It also happens to be the shot with the worst marketing. Powerful players who tend to win points using their smash are always going to attract more attention than those who play lots of lobs, use their opponents’ mistakes and counterattack. In order to convince you and “sell” the lob to you, I’m going to make a confession. In

my teaching career, which spans over more than twenty years, never once has anyone ever come to classes to learn how to lob. Everyone wants to learn the smash. They’ve all got problems with the bandeja because they get a lot of rebound with it, they want to use the smash to apply pressure to prevent their opponents from playing many lobs and ending up tiring them out, amongst other concerns.

Well, now I’m going to share with you what I tell my students: If everyone has trouble with the smash… Why not practise your lobs and make everyone else’s life difficult? Once you know how to defend and use the lob properly, you will realise that padel is actually much simpler than it first appears.

Learn how to defend and play lobs: “THERE ARE NOT MANY POWERFUL PLAYERS WITH GOOD SMASHES, BUT THERE ARE PLENTY OF PLAYERS WHO PLAY BAD LOBS”

Playing a high ball off the wall – The counterattack: Playing the ball that has come off the wall is one of the most important winning shots in padel. You can use it to attack when you recover lobs the opponents have hit past you when at the net, or when the opponent gets a high rebound off the wall when playing a smash.

Don’t desperately look for holes from the back: Basically, don’t look to finish off points by hitting passing or very tight shots, trying to find holes from the back of the court.

Not only are you going to make plenty of errors, but you are also going to be gifting angles to your opponents, making their next volleys even more potent.

You don’t only attack from the net. Play from the back coming forwards: Learn how to defend without making unforced errors. In order to attack properly, learning how to defend well is indispensable. If players don’t learn to defend, they are likely to have trouble identifying when to attack, since they will mainly be focussed on getting out from the back of the court. The first thing to do is avoid making unforced errors, and then, to be able to defend against anything the opponent may play. Once players have these two skills under control, they will be able to assess exactly when the right moment to attack is.

Use the Australian to serve: This system of play can prove useful, as players will always be able to maintain the same position on the court, and as such will be better orientated when it comes to using the walls. Finding your bearings and playing well using the walls is difficult at first, and if on top of this players always have to switch sides it is going to be even tougher. There may be exceptions here, though. For beginners it might be useful to learn to play from both sides and switching sides could be prudent. Changing sides will also be appropriate (i.e. not playing using The Austral-ian) for those who do not go in to the net, or for players with physical limitations.

Transfer the shared concepts: Think of some situations or concepts from tennis or other sports, you will find that they all share things in common:• Do not make unforced errors. Do not give points away.• The bandeja type smash is similar to the one tennis

players would play when they find themselves headed backwards uncomfortably having received a good lob from the opponent. If you observe players in this situa-tion, you will notice that they will play a smash at 50% speed, as though to get the ball under control and to take up a defensive position at the back of the court. In padel something similar happens, with the back wall providing added difficulty, as the ball bouncing high off it will work in the opponent’s favour.

Gaby Reca est un des meilleurs joueurs de l’histoire du padel et forme avec Sebastián Nerone une des paires historiques. Le joueur

argentin, nationalisé français, entraîne plusieurs joueurs à Monaco dans l’objectif de rapprocher ce sport de la population et de créer la sélection de la Principauté.

Grâce à une bonne relation avec Nito Brea, le di-recteur sportif de ce tournoi, Gaby Reca a com-mencé à participer à la formation des joueurs dans le cadre d’un projet dont l’objectif est la création de plusieurs écoles de padel en France.

« C’est un projet auquel je tiens beaucoup, parce que tant Fabrice Pastor que Nito Brea travaillent très sérieusement pour l’expansion de ce sport », déclare le joueur, membre du couple actuellement

numéro 7 du classement mondial. En référence à l’actualité dans le circuit World Padel Tour et les nombreux changements de paires enregistrés dernièrement, Gaby Reca indique que « Comme dans tous les sports, les résultats sont décisifs et quelques paires n’ont eu un bon début d’année. C’est la raison de ces changements, mais Nerone et moi, nous sommes très contents de continuer de jouer ensemble. Nous franchissons une nouvelle étape, nous voulons profiter de cette expérience au maximum et travaillons pour nous améliorer chaque jour».

À la mi-saison, la paire Reca-Nerone se bat pour se maintenir parmi les huit meilleures paires du classement qui joueront dans le Master Final en Décembre à Madrid. Reca estime que: «les niveaux sont très voisins, nous avons perdu face à quelques

paires qui se battent aussi pour être dans le Master, mais nous jouons bien et j’ai confiance. Nous pour-rons être présents dans à Madrid ».

Ils jouent ensemble depuis beaucoup d’années. Ils ont commencé en 1998 et après six ans de sépa-ration, ils se sont retrouvés en 2013.

Conscients que leurs carrières sportives arrivent à leurs termes, Gaby Reca déclare que: « le padel professionnel connaît un changement de généra-tion important. C’est bon pour le sport. Nous sa-vons aussi que notre temps s’achève, mais tant que nous atteignons de bons résultats, nous res-tons dans le circuit ».

Concernant l’organisation du circuit World Padel Tour et son évolution dans les dernières années, Reca affirme que: « l’amélioration est palpable chaque année. Le circuit continue à se dévelop-per, le public est chaque fois plus nombreux et les erreurs du passé ont déjà été effacées. Un des progrès les plus importants est la retransmission des matchs en direct, permettant un rayonnement au niveau international ».

À propos de l’arrivée du circuit mondial de padel à Monte-Carlo, le joueur franco-argentin déclare: « je suis sûr que ce tournoi va être spectaculaire grâce aux installations, son envergure et son au-dience. Monte-Carlo constitue une première étape d’un développement futur. Je crois que dans dix ans ce sport aura une grande expansion au ni-veau international, le circuit se déroulera dans un nombre croissant de pays et le nombre de fans du padel augmentera ».

Gaby Reca is one of the best players in the padel history and together with Sebastián Nerone, they are one of the historic couples.

The Argentine player with French nationality is coaching several players in Monaco, with the aim of bringing this sport closer to more people and creating the Monaco national team.

Due to his good relationship with Nito Brea, the tour-nament Sport Manager, Reca started collaborating with player training, as part of a project that seeks to set up several schools of padel in France.

“I quite like this project because both Fabrice Pas-tor and Nito Brea are working very seriously in or-der to broaden this sport”, said the player ranked the world no. 7 couple.

When referring to the current situation in the World Padel Tour circuit and the many changes registered in the couples lately, Reca said that

“results rules like in any other sport and some couples didn’t have a good start of the year. That’s the reason of these changes, but Nerone and I are happy to go on playing together. We’re in another phase, we try to enjoy the most in the court and we continue training every day to improve”.

When we are in the middle of the season, Reca and Nerone fight to stay among the eight best ranked couples, the ones that will play the Final Master that will be held on December in Madrid. “Level is quite similar, we’ve lost against some couples that also compete to be in the Master, but we’re playing well and I have confidence in being able to be in that big tournament in Madrid”, he said.

They’ve been playing together for a very long time. They started in 1998 and after six years apart, they joined again in 2013. They know they are going through their last stage in their sport careers. “Professional padel is suffering from an important generation change and

that’s good for the sport. We know our time is running out, but as long as we still enjoy and achieve good results we’ll be in the circuit”, he added.

Regarding the organization of the World Padel Tour circuit and the progress it has had for the last years, Reca said that “things are being done better every year. The circuit keeps developing, they are more people working and past mistakes have been solved. Broadcasting live matches has been a very important change which will enable a worldwide expansion.”

In relation to the world padel circuit first entrance in Monte-Carlo, Reca said that “I’m sure the tournament will be amazing because of the set up, the display and the great impact it’ll have. This will be the first step to keep growing. I think padel will have a great ex-pansion internationally within the next ten years, the circuit will be held in more countries and there will be more people practicing this sport.”

Le padel féminin a connu une grande évolu-tion ces dernières années avec l’arrivée de nouvelles jeunes joueuses pratiquant un jeu

plus agressif et plus dynamique. Parmi elles, citons les jumelles Majo et Mapi Sánchez Alaye-to, la meilleure paire du moment, l’ex-joueuse de tennis Marta Marrero, et les madrilènes Ale-jandra Salazar et Marta Ortega, jeune joueuse d’à peine 18 ans destinée à être numéro 1 du mondial.

Comparé aux hommes, le spectacle est très dif-férent chez les femmes. Le jeu est beaucoup plus tactique, plus stratégique. Les spectateurs pour-ront profiter dimanche d’un grand match exhibi-tion entre les jumelles Sánchez Alayeto et Marta Marrero et Marta Ortega avant la finale de Monte Carlo.

Majo et Mapi Sanchez Alayeto ont clairement affi-ché leur ambition, gagnant trois des cinq tournois joués jusqu’à présent dans un circuit. Celui-ci est d’un niveau très homogène ; les trois premières paires ont déjà gagné au moins un trophée. Ale-jandra Salazar et Marta Marrero, actuellement en tête du classement, constituent leur principale menace.

Le padel féminin a développé un tel niveau de jeu ces dernières années que le public du circuit fémi-nin est à chaque fois plus nombreux.

Les gagnantes des trois premiers tournois de la saison ont été les trois premières paires du classe-ment. Néanmoins, à partir du tournoi de Valladolid (Espagne), les jumelles ont imposé puissance et qualité pour prendre de l’avantage.

À la différence des hommes, les sept premières paires du classement ont été présentes dans les finales des tournois. L’arrivée de Cata Tenorio et Victoria Iglesias en finale du Master de Barcelone a été une surprise pour tous. À Cordoue, le tandem Paula Eyheraguibel-Gemma Triay est arrivé pour la première fois en demi-finale et a éliminé la paire Carolina Navarro-Cecilia Reiter. Le schéma s’est répété au dernier Master de Malaga.

La paire Carolina Navarro-Cecilia Reiter, numéro 1 pendant trois ans consécutifs, a beaucoup de mal à retrouver ses marques. En effet, depuis le début de la saison, elles n’ont pas encore atteint de finale.

MARTA ORTEGA: LE FUTUR DU PADELAlors qu’elle avait à peine 17 ans, la madrilène Marta Ortega a été l’une des grandes révélations 2014, jouant paire une exceptionnelle avec Lucía Sainz. Qualifiée pour les finales de plusieurs tour-nois, le paire a amélioré son classement et a pu participer à la grande finale du tournoi le plus important de l’année : le Master Final de Madrid.

Ortega s’est distinguée dans toutes les catégories juniors, a été championne du monde en différentes occasions. Elle est passée professionnelle sans difficulté.

Cette joueuse du team Monte-Carlo International Sports représente le futur du padel espagnol et mondial. Son début de saison, encore un peu ir-régulier, ne lui a pas encore permis de passer des quarts de finales.

LE CIRCUIT FÉMININ

Women padel has considerably developed for the last years. New young players and a more aggressive and dynamic play have

appeared. In this regard, the twins Majo and Mapi Sánchez Alayeto, currently the best couple, the for-mer tennis player Marta Marrero, and the players Alejandra Salazar and Marta Ortega from Madrid stand out. The last one is only 18 years old and is destined to be the next ranked number 1.

Women’s show is very different from men’s, it is a more tactical and strategic one. Audience will enjoy it the Sunday before the grand final in Mon-te-Carlo by an exhibition match between the twins Sánchez Alayeto and Marta Marrero and Marta Ortega.

Majo and Mapi Sánchez Alayeto have won three out of the five tournaments played until now, showing how it is done. It is a circuit with a very similar level in which the three first couples have already won at least a trophy. Alejandra Salazar and Marta

Marrero, currently in first place, seem to be their great rivals.

Women padel has taken a quality leap for the last years. More and more people decide to follow what happens in women circuit.

The first three tournaments of the season were won by the first three ranked couples. However, from Valladolid on the twins’s power and quality have prevailed opening the gap.

Unlike what happens in men circuit, the first seven ranked couples have been in the tourna-ments last rounds. Cata Tenorio and Victoria Ig-lesias surprised everyone when they reached the Barcelona Master final. Later in Cordoba, Paula Eyheraguibel and Gemma Triay managed to be in a semifinal by the very first time, beating Caro-lina Navarro and Cecilia Reiter and repeating it in the last Master played in Malaga against the same opponents.

Carolina Navarro and Cecilia Reiter still find it hard to recover their best version. Although they dominated the women ranking for three years in a row, they have not reached a final yet.

MARTA ORTEGA: THE PADEL FUTUREBeing only 17, Marta Ortega from Madrid surprised everyone last year, making a good couple with Lucía Sainz. They reached several tournaments final rounds, they climbed ranked places and they played the most important tournament grand final in the year, the Madrid Final Master.

Ortega stood out in every single minor category and she was world champion several times. However, the big step towards professionalism did not affect her.

This player from Monte-Carlo International Sports team is the future for the Spanish and world padel. She has not had a good start for this season and she has not been able to break the quarterfinals barrier yet.
