Test sample shall be a piece of the finished wire or cable (600 +/- 25 mm long). The test apparatus shall be contained within a suitable chamber, substantially free from draughts during the test duration, but with facilities for disposing of noxious gases resulting from burning. The chamber shall be maintained at a temperature of 23 +/- °C. The ignition source shall be a gas burner complying with IEC 695-2-4/1 which includes a method of confirmation if the test flame. The flame shall be applied continuously for the period of time of 60s for cables with diameter <=25mm. The wire or cable shall pass the test if the distance between the lower edge of the top support and the onset of charring is greater than 50mm. In addition, a failure shall be recorded if burning extends downwards to a point greater than 540mm from the lower edge of the top support. If a failure is recorded two more tests shall be carried out. If both tests result in passes, the wire or cable shall be deemed to have passed the test.
