FM What’s your typical day, Julia?
Julia During the week I get up at 7 o’clock, have breakfast at 7.30 and leave home at 8 o’clock. I walk to school because it is very near. Lessons start at 8.15 a.m. and finish at 3.15 p.m. There is one hour for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m. I usually eat in the school canteen.
FM What are your favourite subjects?
Julia I.C.T. and English. I also like sport, especially basketball, but I haven’t got time to practise during the week.
FM Why?
Julia Because after school I do my homework with my friends Samantha and Janine. Then, at about 5.30, we join1 my mum at a local food bank.
FM What’s a food bank?Julia It is a centre with food for
people in need2. My mum is the organiser of the centre and spends all day there. She prepares the food parcels3.
FM Where does the food come from?
Julia It comes from local supermarkets and charities.
FM What’s in a parcel?Julia Cereal, pasta, tinned4
food, tea / coffee, sugar5, biscuits6, etc.
FM How do you and your friends help your mum?
Julia We prepare the parcels. Then my mum drives7 us to houses in the area and we deliver8 the parcels to the people.
FM Do you enjoy it?
Julia Yes, we all do. It’s hard work, but we love it! We finish at 7 o’clock. Mum and I go home, cook dinner, eat and watch TV. I sometimes read a book, but I always go to bed at 9.30.
FM What do you do at weekends?
Julia The weekends are different. I usually go to the cinema with Samantha and Janine on Friday evening. Every Saturday afternoon I play basketball for my local team. On Sunday morning we go to the food bank. We make special Sunday parcels and deliver them for lunch.
