official university curricula• >200 jobs/day on the average • ~2.5 million hits on the website from 100+ different

countries • >5 TB of training material downloaded from the web site

100+ topics (user induction, grid services installation and management, application development) with

plenty of exercises. Three levels of difficulty: Basic, Medium, and Advanced.




The EUMEDGRID Grid School(http://www.eumedgrid.org/egsap-1)

First EUMEDGRID Grid School (Cairo, Egypt, 17-28 April 2007)

– 10 applications selected, all “gridified”, several with GENIUS interface

(biology, engineering, mathematics, physics, cognitive sciences , etc.)

– 80 nodes, 4 grid sites, 6 Mb/s connection installed in a hotel




2nd EELA Grid School (Mérida, Venezuela, 30th Jul-10th Aug 2007) – 12 days, 11 students– 27 nodes, 6 sites + 2 Mbits/s connection– 5 applications gridified (Enviromental and Earth Sciences, Food Engineering, Data mining)

– Java Distributed Computing System (UCI- CUBA)

– AERMOD (CUBAENERGIA - CUBA)

– Aiuri (Project COPPE/UFRJ - BRAZIL)

– Food Engineering Application on Meat Freezing (UNAM - MEXICO)

The Consorzio COMETA Grid School(http://www.consorzio-cometa.it/events/grid-school-2007)

• First International Grid School for Industrial Application (Aci Trezza, Catania, 30 Jun - 07 Jul 2007)– 7 applications selected (2 from coming from the industrial

worlds) and successfully ported to the Grid.

Just an example: OpenFoam, The Open Source Computational Fluid Dynamics

(CFD) Toolbox, is now able to run on the COMETA infrastructure

– Some of them requiring MPI2CH (a patch for the gLite WMS was developed to enable that feature) and 64bit platform (WN installed with 64bit SO and libraries)

The EUChinaGRID School

• School for Application Integration on Grid (Beijing, China, 25 Oct – 03 Nov 2007)– 4 applications ported and ready to run on the EUChina Grid

Infrastructure: Grid-based Statistical Analysis of Fe Abundances Gradients in the

Galaxy Three biological applications used within the Chinese Human

Cancer Project (BLAST, Blat, SIM4) ZEN - Cosmological parameter constraints with the combination of

different probes - aims to solve the dark energy enigma A Drug Discovery application

• Two Grid Schools held in Martina Franca (Taranto, Italy) from 5th to 23rd of November 2007– 1 week Grid Site Administrator Training Course (to prepare the “Grid-in-

a-Room” infrastructure to be used in the following weeks)– 2 weeks Application Integration Training School– 7 applications belonging to different fields such as hadron therapy, data-

mining, neural networks, environment and civil protection, hydrology, optimization COMPLETELY “gridified” already during the school

– By the end of the school, some applications were also running on INFN production Grid using the resources of several virtual organizations (GRIDIT, THEOPHYS, PAMELA, BIO)
