DSK Pioneer Investments conquer Rolex Middle Sea Race

Milan, 20 October 2009 – DSK Pioneer Investments finished the 30th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race at 0300 this morning having competed in Racing Class 1, alongside the likes of VO70s Ericsson (SWE) and Intermatica (ITA), STP65 Luna Rossa (ITA), Mini Maxi RAN(GBR) and 100 ft ICAP Leopard (GBR) who took line honours. The Rolex Middle Sea started off gently with 8-10 knots of breeze as owner and helmsman Danilo Salsi swiftly manoeuvred DSK Pioneer Investments over the start line at 1130 Saturday, with thousands of spectators in Grand Harbour looking on. Over the course of the afternoon, as the fleet headed towards the Messina Strait, the winds built to 16-20 knots, before the real weather set in on Sunday changing the playing field dramatically.

It was at 0700 on Sunday when Swan 90 DSK Pioneer Investments arrived at Stromboli, with winds gusting up to 45 knots. From there it was upwind sailing all the way for the experienced crew until they reached Egadi Island later in the day. Once round the corner of Sicily passing Favignana, conditions changed again for the team on Monday as they headed towards Pantelleria always nipping at the heals of the thoroughbred racers just out in front.

By nightfall on Monday, the team was on the home stretch from Lampedusa to Malta with a dramatic sunset and 10 knots of wind astern. As DSK Pioneer Investments passed Comino at 0100 the winds went very light, just in time for final stretch to the finish line at La Valletta. The Swan 90 crept up the

harbour and over the finish line in front of the new Royal Malta Yacht Club in complete silence, with the antique city ominous in the background and only 2-3 knots of wind.

“The conditions were very diverse throughout the race. I am very pleased with the boat and even more so with our crew,” said owner and helmsman Danilo Salsi. “It is however disappointing that our Swan 90 was in the racing class, rather than cruiser-racer class. DSK Pioneer Investments is first and foremost a cruising yacht, a very fast one, but a cruiser.”

DSK Pioneer Investments’ elapsed time for the demanding 606 nautical mile race was 2 days, 15 hours, 36 minutes and 50 seconds. Of the 76 boat fleet, 23 boats retired and it remains to be seen who will win overall. From Malta, DSK Pioneer Investments returns to Palma before making the Transatlantic crossing to the Caribbean for the winter months. The next regatta for DSK Pioneer Investmentswill be the RORC Caribbean 600 in February 2010.

Milano, 20 ottobre 2009 – DSK PIONEER INVESTMENTS ha completato la 30° Edizione della regata Rolex Middle Sea Race alle 03.00 di questa mattina, gareggiando in Classe 1 e terminando la competizione all’ottavo posto dietro gli equipaggi degli yacht ERICSSON (SVEZIA)7°; INTERMATICA (ITALIA) 6°; ICAP LEOPARD (GRAN BRETAGNA) 5°; MINI MAXI RAN (GRAN BRETAGNA)4° e LUNA ROSSA (ITALIA) 3°. La Rolex Middle Sea inizia con una brezza gentile intorno agli 8-10 nodi quando Danilo Salsi, proprietario e timoniere della DSK Pioneer Investments, passa sulla linea di partenza alle 11:30 di Sabato, con migliaia di spettatori nel Grand Harbour. Nel pomeriggio, mentre la "flotta" e' diretta verso lo Stretto di Messina, il vento aumenta la sua potenza da 8-10 fino ad arrivare a 16-20 nodi. Durante la domenica vedremo ci sarà un meteo che condizionera' il campo di gara drasticamente. Verso le 07.00 di mattina della domenica la Swan 90 DSK Pioneer Investments arriva a Stromboli, con un vento forte e raffiche fino a 45 nodi. Da li in poi e' stata una regata facile per un cosi abile equipaggio, fino ad arrivare, più tardi nella giornata, alle isole Egadi. Una volta passati oltre la Sicilia dopo Favignana le condizioni meteo cambiano ancora per la squadra nel corso di lunedi, mentre veleggiano verso Pantelleria. Al crepuscolo di lunedi, il team è sul tratto da Lampedusa a Malta sullo sfondo di un drammatico tramonto e 10 nodi a poppa. Mentre la DSK Pioneer Investments supera Comino alle 01.00, il vento scende di molto, appena in tempo per l'ultimo tratto verso la linea di arrivo a La Valletta. La Swan 90 DSK PIONEER arriva furtiva al porto e sopra la linea di arrivo innanzi al New Royal Malta club in pieno silenzio, con l'antica città sullo sfondo e solo 2-3 nodi di vento. " Le condizioni del meteo sono state diverse durante tutta la gara. Sono molto soddisfatto della barca e ancor di più soddisfatto dell'equipaggio". riporta il proprietario e timoniere Danilo Salsi. Rimane comunque sia deludente che la nostra Swan 90 era nella classe Racing e non invece nella piu' appropriata Classe Cruiser Racer. La DSK pioneer Investments e' in primo luogo e sopratutto uno yacht da crociera, uno molto veloce, ma da crociera. Il tempo di percorrenza della DSK Pioneer Investments per l'impegnativo tratto di 606 miglia nautiche e' stato di 2 giorni,15 ore,36 minuti e 50 secondi. Delle 76 barche a formare la flotta dell'inizio, 23 si sono ritirate e rimane ancora da vedere chi e' il vincitore. Da Malta adesso la DSK Pioneer Investments ritorna a Palma prima della transatlantica verso i caraibi dei mesi invernali. La prossima regata infatti sara' la RORC 600 dei caraibi nel febbraio 2010.
