DANCE MARATHON 2015AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
Dance Marathon at the University of Florida is a year long effort ofmore than 6,000 students that culminates in a 26.2-hour event. At theevent, over 800 UF students stay awake and on their feet to symbolizethe obstacles and hardships our Miracle Children have faced. Theevent raises funds for UF Health Shands Childrens Hospital, ourlocal Childrens Miracle Network Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Asthe most successful student-run philanthropy in the southeastern
United States, Dance Marathon at UF has raised more than $8million in the past 20 years.
Throughout the event, Miracle Families, who have survivedremarkable odds and overcome their illnesses or injuries with thehelp of UF Health Shands Childrens Hospital, share their storiesand inspire students. Musicians, celebrities, athletes, student
groups and community organizations entertain the dancers duringthe event to provide motivation and support.
All the funds raised from Dance Marathon at UF goes directlyback to UF Health Shands Childrens Hospital. The following
breakdown illustrates how they used these funds during the2012-2013 fscal year.

Weve been attending DanceMarathon for 7 years now! Itsbeen a wonderful event yearly,and weve had some amazingopportunities through DM.
Geoff was diagnosed withleukemia when he was four monthsold. He went through one year of
chemotherapy at Shands and hasbeen in remission ever since then.
When he was 10 months, hewas diagnosed with a hearingloss not related to his cancer or
chemotherapy. He was ftted withhearing aids at 12 months old. Hishearing progressed to profoundhearing loss, and when he was5 years old, he got a cochlearimplant at Shands.
Geoff is a great kid and loves toread. Hes doing well in school and
just fnished taking his third gradeFCAT. He loves his baby brother,Legos, running, basketball, andthe Florida Gators!

Fundraiser or Dancer. You can also apply to be a Captain orStaff member.
Additionally, Dance Marathon consists of multiplefundraising events throughout the year. Another great
