From Our Pastor …

“BEHOLD YOUR MOTHER!’

All of us recognize these words of Jesus as He hung upon the cross of Calvary. He spoke these words to the beloved Apostle who represents all of humanity. Jesus, the Savior of the World, who was crucified for my sins and the sins of the whole human race, gives us His own Mother, Mary, to be our Spiritual Mother. So great is Christ’s love for us that He shares with each human being the most precious person in His life, the Blessed Virgin Mary. A mother carries her baby in her womb for nine months and in her heart for the rest of her life. “Mother” is undoubtedly the most beautiful and lovable word in any language. “Mother” stands for a multitude of things she gives to her children. It also stands for sacrifices, pain, grief, and sorrow which she undergoes to keep her children happy and secure. On this Mother’s Day we want to express our love for our Mothers, living and deceased. We offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for them!

THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Writing in the fourth century, one of the early Church Fathers, St. Gregory of Nyssa, tells us “What came about in bodily form in Mary, the fullness of the Godhead shining through Christ in the Blessed Virgin Mary, takes place in a similar way in every person that has been Baptized and Confirmed. The Lord does not come in bodily form, for we “no longer know Christ according to the flesh,” but Christ dwells in us spiritually and God the Father takes us to His abode with Him,” the Gospel tells us. In this way the Child Jesus is born in each one of us. Our Parish recognizes and congratulates all our Teens who have been preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, and were Confirmed by Auxiliary Bishop Mark Rivituso this past week:

You are encouraged to pray this prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe published by The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe,

Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas. We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana. Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels, that we may be spared the worst of this illness. For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust. In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts. We come to you with confidence, knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy. Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus.

Amen.

How We Pray the Rosary

The purpose of the Rosary is to help us keep in memory certain major events or mysteries in the life and death of Jesus and to honor Mary, His Mother.

The Rosary has four sets of Mysteries: Joyful Mysteries, Luminous Mysteries, Sorrowful Mysteries, and Glorious Mysteries. Each set is composed of five events of the life and death of Jesus and is recited on designated days of the week. (See below.)

________________________________________________

Begin at the crucifix and pray the Apostles Creed. (See next page for all the prayers) On the next large bead, pray the Our Father. On each of the next three small beads, pray the Hail Mary. Then pray the Glory Be. Declare the first mystery for that day of the week. On the large bead, pray the Our Father. On each of the next ten beads, pray the Hail Mary. At the end of the mystery, pray the Glory Be and the Fatima Prayer, Declare the next mystery for that day and repeat. At the end of the last mystery for the day, pray the Hail Holy Queen.

Prayers of the Rosary

Sign of the Cross In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pon-tius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

The Fatima Prayer O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy. Amen

The St. Vincent de Paul conference at Annunziata is very grateful for your response to our request for assistance for our pregnant teen. Your generous support provided a crib; a stroller/ car seat ; lamps and furniture; household supplies; some baby items such as diapers, wipes. lotions, ointments; bottles; baby clothing and some generous gift card for Target,

which she will be able to use as the baby grows. When this young woman moved to her apartment in mid March she had only an air mattress. A few days ago she and the baby returned from the hospital to cozy, home where we hope she and her son will thrive. You have made a life changing

For all who have contracted coronavirus,

we pray for care and healing.

For those who are particularly vulnerable, we pray for safety and protection.

For all who experience fear or anxiety, we pray for peace of mind and spirit.

For affected families who are facing difficult decisions between food on the table or public safety, we pray for policies that recognize their plight.

For those who do not have adequate health insurance, we pray that no family will face financial burdens alone.

For those who are afraid to access care due to immigration status, we pray for recognition of the God-given dignity of all.

For our brothers and sisters around the world, we pray for shared solidarity.

For public officials and decision-makers, we pray for wisdom and guidance.

Father, during this time may your Church be a sign of hope, comfort and love to all.

Grant peace. Grant comfort. Grant healing.

Be with us, Lord. Amen.
