FLYING FISH fu varato nel 1860 aEssex nel Massachusetts. Per oltre

20 anni rimase lo scafo più rappre-sentativo della categoria Market

Schooner (goletta da mercato) e fupreso a campione da molti costrut-

tori navali dell’epoca. Grazie alleparticolari caratteristiche costruttive

e alla sua vastissima velatura, ilFLYING FISH fu una delle imbar-

cazioni più veloci della flottapeschereccia di Gloucester; tali sue

qualità gli consentivano di tra-sportare, a tempo di record, il

pescato dai famosi Banks ai portidi mercato, con evidenti maggiori

possibilità di smercio e di guadagno.

La sistemazione generale degliaccessori di coperta, come pure la

colorazione che rispettava unaprecisa tradizione, rimase sempre

rigorosamente inalterata.Oltre alla scrupolosa documenta-

zione, un’interessante novità ècostituita dalla veste grafica deipiani costruttivi, modernizzati e

assolutamente attendibili.

American schooner, 1860Designed by the famous shipbuilderJeremiah Burham, the FLYING FISH waslaunched in 1860 in Essex,Massachusetts. For more than twentyyears it was the most representative ves-sel of the Market Schooner class. Thanksto its special construction characteristsand the enormous amount of sail it car-ried, the FLYING FISH was one of thefastest vessels of the Gloucester fishingfleet, transporting the fish caught on thefamous Banks to the market ports inrecord time, with obvious advantages interms of sales and earnings. The generalarrangement of the deck accessories andthe colours were traditional and werealways strictly respected.

Grâce aux caractéristiquesde construction particulières et à sa voi-lure très vaste, le FLYING FISH fut l’unedes embarcations les plus rapides de laflotte de pêche de Gloucester; ses qua-lités lui permirent de transporter, en untemps record, la pêche des fameuxBanks aux ports de marché, avec despossibilités d’écoulement et de profitsmajeurs et évidents. L’aménagementgénéral des accessoires du pont, ainsique la coloration qui respectait une tra-dition précise, demeura toujours rigou-reusement inaltérée.

Von dem bekannten SchiffsbauerJeremiah Burham geplant, lief die“FLYING FISH” 1860 inEssex/Massachusetts vom Stapel. Überzwanzig Jahre lang war sie das reprä-sentativste Schiff der Klasse “MarketSchooner”. Dank ihres besonderenBautyps und ihrer großflächigenBesegelung gehörte die “FLYING FISH”zu den schnellsten Fangschiffen derFlotte von Gloucester: Damit konnte siein wahrer Rekordzeit den frischenFangfisch von den berühmten Banks indie Häfen transportieren, was natürlichden Verkauf und den Gewinn erheblichsteigerte. Die Anordnung der Aufbautenblieb über Jahre hinweg unverändertund folgte einer strengen Tradition, wasübrigens auch für die Lackierung galt.Über die genaue und zuverlässigeDokumentation hinaus ist die neuegraphische Darbietung derKonstruktionspläne eine interessanteBesonderheit unseres Bausatzes.
