27963 Tecnologie speciali 1 (SPECIAL TECHNOLOGIES 1)

Settore scientifico disciplinare: ING-IND/16 Tecnologie e sistemi di lavorazione

Credits: 5

Objectives The course provides the mechanical engineering students with the basic knowledge of welding technologies. The structure of a join is described and the causes of the typical defects are studied.

Program After a description of the typical structure of a joint (base material, heat affected zone, melted zone), the preparation techniques are analyzed The typologies of defects occurring in a welded material are studied and the solution are analyzed. Next, the standard welding technologies (oxyfuel arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, submerged arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding) and innovative welding technologies (laser welding, electron beam welding, plasma arc welding, friction stir welding) are described.

Abilities After the completion of the course the student should be able to: - choose the joining technique more suitable for a specific application; - distinguish the typical defects of welding and establish the causes.

Organisation The course consists of lectures (50 hrs.). It includes visits to industries and laboratories.

Examination The exam consists of an oral test.

Prerequisites Chemistry 1, Materials Technology 1, Manufacturing Technology 1, Materials Technology 2.
