...da Arte Seriale a strappi d’Affresco, l’uomo che ha creato Babilonia Arte ...from Serial Art to Frescoes, the man who created Babilonia Arte

Manar Al Ani nasce a Baghdad da una famiglia di insegnanti che educano il figlio alla bellezza delle arti ed alla cultura. I due professori cresco-no Manar nella culla della storia indo-europea, nella città delle mille e una notte, in Mesopota-mia fra il Tigri e l’Eufrate. Formerà il suo ca-rattere artistico ed istrionico proprio questa ric-chezza d’Arte e di Poesia e la ritroverà a Roma, città che raggiungerà all’eta di 19 anni fuggito dal Regime di Saddam Hussein in cerca di liber-tà e democrazia. Sono gli anni ottanta e Piazza Navona è una fucina di artisti dei quali molti Iracheni ed è proprio da qui che Manar, co-mincia il suo cammino mettendo a frutto il suo ingegno ed il suo spirito artistico. Disegna una collezione di orologi di prestigio che entreranno nelle case di molti collezionisti e comincia così il suo percorso nell’Arte seriale. Da qui, e dall’in-contro con molti giovani artisti dell’accademia di belle arti, si profila questa inclinazione per il progetto e la realizzazione di Opere prodotte a mano in numero di copie limitate: simili ma mai uguali. Nasce cosi Babilonia Arte, 5 gallerie nel nord Italia che si occupano di produrre e vende-re l’Arte seriale progettata da Manar . Nei primi anni novanta Manar si innamora della tecnica dell’affresco e soprattutto dello strappo d’affre-sco, antico metodo per recuperare e restaurare gli affreschi. Comincia cosi il secondo cammino di Babilonia Arte e il primo vernissage di Opere seriali su affresco avviene a Borken, grazie alla spinta dell’amica gallerista Gerda Sibelt: è un successo... il primo giorno della Mostra si ven-dono quasi tutte le opere. Manar comincia così a studiare soggetti originali per opere seriali e allo stesso tempo crea la propria equipe di arti-sti con la quale affresca case e palazzi prima in Europa e poi in tutto il mondo. Mentre i quadri quindi vengono prodotti secondo il contempo-

raneo concept di Andy Warhol di “Arte popola-re”, i grandi affreschi realizzati su commissione in residenze private sono unici ed ispirati ad una moderna scuola Raffaellita dati i soggetti mol-to classici. Nascono così opere pittoriche che diventeranno patrimonio del mondo riprodotti in poster, su tovagliette una vera e propria arte virale che ha la sua origine nella comunicazione e nella Pop Art. A Manar Al Ani si deve quindi la popolarità dell’originale invenzione tutta ita-liana “dell’affresco seriale” che ha popolato le Fiere d’Arte dall’Europa al Giappone. Soggetti originali come eleganti piante di limoni, adatta-menti neoclassici, Cariatidi o la bellissima Sibilla su fondo rosso sono ormai diffusi in tutti i cata-loghi d’arte, originali numerati o copie ispirate dai disegni di Manar. Come tutti gli artisti Ma-nar ha una cifra stilistica che si concretizza in un colore rosso intenso chiamato proprio dalla sua equipe di pittori “Rosso Manar”. Centinaia di artisti sono passati dall’atelier Babilonia Arte e i migliori pittori fra questi oggi fanno parte del-la selezionata Equipe di Manar. Abbandonata quasi del tutto la produzione seriale, Manar si occupa principalmente del Design, del Proget-to e del Coordinamento di grandi opere esclu-sive in affresco, commissionate da architetti e da mecenati privati. Con la sua equipe di artisti “tutta italiana” ha decorato in tutto il mondo Ville private, Palazzi , Hotel, Castelli residenze Regali e Presidenziali . L’Idiota di Dostoiesky diceva che “ la bellezza Salverà il Mondo” e se è cosi a Manar Al Ani, cittadino del mondo, va il nostro ringraziamento per aver esportato l’Arte italiana dell’affresco ed aver reso il mondo più bello. Manar Al Ani was born in Baghdad into a family of teachers who teach the child to the beauty of arts and culture. The two professors Manar grow in the cradle of Indo-European history in the city of a thousand and one night in Mesopotamia between the Tigris and the Euphrates. Il Palazzo e la sua Anima.

Il progetto iniziale consisteva nell’Affrescare un complesso di edifici impor-tanti come questo del Libano . Meta di importanti personaggi e capi di stato la Villa principale si dilata in un giardino in stile Versailles e comprende addirittura un anfiteatro di 350 posti a sedere. Vista l’immensa mole di lavoro abbiamo stilato i termini principali dei vari soggetti e abbiamo quin-di iniziato una grande opera di decoro creando di getto di volta in volta i minimi particolari, mettendo a frutto la nostra esperienza e la conoscenza della storia dell’arte. Man mano che il lavoro prendeva forma il Palazzo emanava la sua nuova anima fino a quando il committente ci ha addirittura incaricato di occuparci anche dell’arredo dell’intera dimora.

The Palace and its Soul.

The initial project consisted in ‘a home as important as this fresco of Lebanon. The huge palace is now a destination for important personages and heads of state you can also see the extension of the Villa prindipale that expands into a Versailles-style garden with even a 350-seat amphitheater. Given the immense amount of work we have drafted the main terms of the various subjects and we have begun a great work of creating decorative cast from time to time by exploiting the smallest details of our experien-ce and knowledge of art history. As the work took shape the Town’s adopted the new soul until the client has instructed us to deal with the architect also of the entire home furnishings.

L’intervistaAffrescare un ampio salone dei ricevimenti è sempre un grande lavoro, ma tutto nasce sempre dalla conoscenza con il committente. Prima ancora di pensare cosa progettare inizia la conoscenza dei gusti, delle abitudini e delle inclinazioni dei clienti. Sono loro che dovranno vivere in quella casa e come primo incontro entriamo in contatto con la loro parte emotiva e con la loro personalità. Ogni nostro lavoro tende a riflettere il gu-sto, il carattere, le abitudini e a volte anche la storia personale di chi vive nella casa.

The Interview Paint a large reception room is always a great job, but everything always comes from the knowledge with the customer. Il Salone nel PalazzoQuesta residenza sontuosa, di prorpietà di clienti facolto-si, aveva bisogno di un grande salone dei ricevimenti e per questa zona abbiamo scelto un decoro in foglia d’oro per le cornici in gesso e motivi floreali di ispirazione seicentesca. L’insieme dei colori pastello è impreziosito dalla forza del rosso Manar, un particolare bordeaux scuro, e dall’oro che sottolinea tutto l’open space.

The Lounge in the PalaceThis luxurious residence prorpietà wealthy clients wanted a large re-ception room and the area we chose a decoration in gold leaf on plaster cornices and floral motifs inspired by the seventeenth century. The set of pastel colors is enhanced by the strength of the red Manar, a particularly dark burgundy, and gold, which emphasizes all the open space.


Entrare nel PalazzoPer l’entrata del palazzo abbiamo optato per dei classici Trompe d’oil incorniciati da colonne in stile dorico. Effetti marmorei e finiture oro contornano visioni di giardini all’italiana che si affacciano sul mare. Grandi conchiglie dorate sottolineano le nicchie agli angoli della stanza. In effetti la villa si trova sulla cima di una collina da cui si gode un paesaggio da favola ed in lontananza si scorge il mare. Il tutto è immerso in un atmosfera di pace e serenità che emana un’armonia rivitalizzante.

Entering the PalaceFor the entrance of the palace we opted for the classic Trompe d’oil framed by Doric columns. Marbled gold trim surround effects and visions of Ita-lian gardens that overlook the sea. Large golden shells emphasize the niches at the corners of the room. In fact the villa is located on top of a hill which offers a stunning landscape and in the distance you can see the sea. The whole is immersed in an atmo-sphere of peace and serenity that emanates a revitalizing harmoniy.


La Sala del CaminoIn Tutta la nostra opera, che si è conclusa poi con la cura dell’intero arredo del palazzo, abbiamo tenuto come tema principale l’oro. Non solo perché è il metallo prezioso per eccellenza, ma poiché nell’ispirazione progettuale, abbiamo inteso rivisitare lo stile Impero che mescolava temi dell’ar-chitettura classica con i decori d’orati. Ecco così esplodere nella sua sontuosità la sala del camino con soffitti decorati, cassettoni in noce nazionale e decori neoclassici. Marmo colonne e capitelli d’oro creano un atmosfera di raffinata eleganza che rende preziosa la dimora per la grande qualità artistica dei soggetti.

The Hall of FireplaceThroughout our work, which then ended with the care of the entire interior of the palace, we took the gold as its main theme. Not only because it is the precious metal par excellence but as design inspiration, we intended to revisit the Empire style that mixed themes of classical architecture with golden decorations. Here it exploded in his sumptuous hall of the fireplace with ornate ceilings, paneled in walnut and neoclassical decoration. Marble columns and capitals of gold create an atmosphere of refined elegance that makes it valuable for the home of great artistic quality subjects.


Il Rosso e l’OroIl decoro Rosso e Oro è il tema della grande sala da pranzo impreziosita dall’immenso tavolo intarsiato alla maniera del grande Maggiolini. I’ampio proscenio rosso, colore dell’at-tenzione, è una sorta di fondale nella commedia della vita dove i protagonisti sono gli ospiti e i proprietari della grande villa. Anche la pelle che riveste le sedie riprende il tema del rosso che è la conversazione, dove ci si confronta e nascono le grandi decisioni.

The Red and GoldThe red and gold decoration is the theme of the large dining room enhanced by the immense inlaid table in the manner of “The great Maggiolini”. The big stage red, the color of attention, is a kind of backdrop in the comedy of life where the protagonists are the guests and the owners of the large villa. Even the skin that covers the chairs takes up the theme of red that is the conversation color where you can born and compare great decisions.


Le scale sono un accessorio di servizio nelle case comuni mentre in una grande villa, come questa del Li-bano, diventano un filtro riflessivo che si apre su grandi giardini affrescati di gusto toscano. Il verde, colore che da serenità, è il protagonista di profonde prospettive italiane che si perdono fra le colline.

The stairs are in a common homes an accessory service, while in a large house, like this in Lebanon, become a reflective filter which opens onto a large frescoed Tuscan style gardens. The green, color of serenity, is the protagonist of the Italian deep perspectives that are lost in the hills.


Il Salotto fiorentinoUn altra area di conversazione più rilassata è quella del sa-lotto fiorentino. I Tessuti damascati dei divani fanno a gara con decori floreali illuminati da una cascata di cristallo di Boemia. L’atmosfera dei verdi giardini fiorentini si rilassa nei temi dei beige e dei rosa. Ancora ad impreziosire l’ambiente le cornici oro che continuano il tema principale dell’arredo. Ricchissimi tendaggi in seta con panneggi raccolti oscurano le vetrate a creare un calda atmosfera di alcova dove il legno di noce nazionale è usato per sottolineare i preziosi decori delle pareti.

Florentine LoungeOne other area of conversation is more relaxed in the living room in Florence. ...The Dome in Villa

La CupolaQuesto progetto in Kuwait è un wedding palace commissionato da un facoltoso committente, mecenate di grande sensibilità ar-tistica. Il progetto ha inoltre un significato sociale, un dono fatto alla città, ma soprattutto ai cittadini dove si svolgono i tradizio-nali festeggiamenti per matrimoni di rito arabo. Grande amante dell’arte italiana il cliente ha inteso portare in Kuwait il gusto dell’affresco per dare originalità al palazzo. Con 14 artisti abbiamo lavorato a ventidue metri di altezza so-spesi su impalcature come nel rinascimento. Il clima molto cal-do ci ha costretto a climatizzare l’intera cupola per permetterci di lavorare nel comfort e dare il massimo della performance.

The DomeThis project in Kuwait is a wedding palace commissioned by a wealthy patron, patron of great artistic sensibility. The project also has a social meaning, a gift to the city but also to citizens where they play traditional Arabic ritual celebrations for weddings. A great lover of Italian clients in Kuwait has sought to bring the taste of the fresco to give originality to the palace.With 14 artists we have worked twenty-two feet high on scaffolding suspen-ded as in the Renaissance. The very hot weather forced us to air condition the entire dome to allow us to work in comfort and give the best performance.

Coricato come Michelangelo, Manar controlla i dise-gni preparatori (gli spolveri) cercando di visionare che il risultato finale sia quello progettato e desiderato. La-vorare a queste altezze su una cupola di 20 metri di diametro impone grande serietà, ma soprattutto pra-ticità. Il Saper fare dei nostri artisti è la nostra forza. L’emozione esplode in grande soddisfazione quando, tolte le impalcatire, il nostro lavoro viene alla luce in tutta la sua bellezza. Tutta l’equipe di artisti ed archi-tetti si gode l’applauso dei visitatori ed i complimenti per il pregiatissimo lavoro svolto

Lying like Michelangelo, Manar controls the preparatory dra-wings (the pouncing) trying to see that the end result is that planned and desired. Working at these heights on a dome 20 meters in diameter requires very seriously but especially prac-tical. The know-how of our artists is our strength. Emotion explodes with great satisfaction when the scaffolding removed, our work is revealed in all its beauty. The whole team of artists and architects can enjoy the applause and compliments of the visitors for the valuable work done.


Il Decoro Il tema delle decorazioni ancora una volta è la fine-stra sui giardini italiani. Questa volta però abbiamo inserito un gusto più romantico con sentieri che percorrono l’oriz-zonte come ad indicare la strada della vita. Ampi balconi debordanti di fiori si affacciano sullo spettatore. A parte il blu di cina e l’oro dell’arabesco centrale i toni della cupola sono tutti pastelli estremamente eleganti.

The Decor The theme of the decorations once again is the window on Italian gardens. But this time we added a more romantic style with paths that cross the horizon as if to indicate the path of life. Large balconies overflowing with flowers facing the viewer. Apart from the blue china and gold of central dome, the color tones are all extremely elegant pastels.

Il viaggio è la cosa che li disseta e ancor di più l’incontro con le culture diverse. La casa di questi amici riflette la loro anima, il gusto per la raffinatezza e per l’arte italiana. La loro casa si riempie di ricordi e di oggetti che arrivano da tutte le parti del mondo e soprattutto di opere europee. Proprio da questo amore per l’arte è nato il desiderio di dare un tocco d’affresco italiano alla loro dimora negli emirati.

Ogni angolo della casa è intriso di citazioni colte e fi-gure classiche. Dal rinascimento al periodo romantico alle nature morte ed il decoro corre sulle pareti e sui soffitti. Every corner of the house is full of quotations from classical figures and educated. From the Renaissance to the Romantic period to still life and the decor runs on the walls and ceilings. In addition to donating our precious building work creates a relaxing atmosphere and magic that brings to life the visitor and the customer to a journey through the Italian art.

La costruzione, molto raffinata, ha un sapore classico con tetti piani terrazzati ed un grande giardino che la contorna. Anche qui i proprietari sono molto amanti dell’Italia e la padro-na di casa è una persona di gusto e che ama la cultura europea e ci ha seguito in tutta l’opera. All’equipe di Manar è stata richiesta la consulenza completa sul-la decorazione e l’arredamento d’interni.

Le cupole di luce A sinistra il grande soffitto affrescato con personaggi della mitologia greco romana che sovrasta il salone delle feste. I pittori curano i lavori con zelo e perizia rittoccando il dipinto finchè non si raggiunge la perfezione del progetto. Il tutto sotto la supervisione di Manar che coordina e di-rige l’opera. In tutta la casa poi si estendono una serie di

cupole che accolgono lampadari e punti luce. Qui abbiamo scelto di dare spazio al cielo talvolta contornato da roseti in fiore altre volte affollato da putti.

Una persona di buon gusto che, viste le elevate temperature che si raggiungono in questa zona tropicale, vive molto la casa intenamente. Questa consuetudine è tipica di tutto il mondo arabo. Anche nelle città più antiche le tradizionali dimore bianche, molto sobrie all’ester-no, si aprono in loggiati e giardini interni che rendono la casa armoniosa e fresca.

La vegetazione dei giar-dini è tipicamente di gusto arabo con palmeti e spiagge d’orate. L’affresco di questo genere viene usato per ampliare gli spazi nei grandi saloni della villa con uno spettacolare effetto scenico.

The Fresco GardenWith our customer Manar has chosen for this villa a series of broad terra-ces overlooking the sea. The vegetation of the gardens is typical of the Arab style with palm trees and beaches of sea bream. The fresco of this kind is used to expand the space in the great halls of the villa with a spectacular scenic effect.

L’Arte nel CastelloQuesto castello, di nuova costruzione, è una location per ceri-monie dove abbiamo realizzato 1200 metri quadrati di affresco, una serie di grandi saloni con volte a botte. Il bacino culturale che ha ispirato il ciclo del Castello Flotta di Cosenza comprende una matrice seicentesca che si estende geograficamente su tutta la penisola, da Venezia a Roma, da Firenze a Napoli. I riferimen-ti artistici spaziano dal conosciuto e celebrato, con i Carracci, Reni, Tiepolo, Canaletto, attraverso il pennello di Luca Giorda-no, Le Brun e Boucher, fino ai meno noti dipinti di Fischietti, Carpioni, Ferretti e Houasse. Art in CastleThis castle, newly built, is a venue for ceremonies where we built 1200 square meters of fresco, a series of large rooms with vaulted ceilings. The basin has inspired the cultural cycle of Flotta Castle (CZ) includes a ma-trix of seventeenth century that extends geographically across the peninsula, from Venice to Rome, from Florence to Naples.

The ThemeThe vicissitudes of human life unfold through the halls, exemplified by mythological episodes, places in relation to the elements of nature and the succession of the seasons. Gli Ovali applicati

Il Castello Flotta è una multisala da ricevimento su stile barocco, dotato di quattro zone con ampia capienza e di quattro suite di circa 70 mq l’una posizionate nelle torri del castello. Tutto il castello è affrescato con ovali e cornici in foglia oro.

La proprietà si estende su di una superficie totale di circa 30000 mq, riproducendo fedelmente nei minimi particolari un vero “castello medievale”. Inoltre il Castello Flotta viene caratterizzato, non-ché reso unico, dalle sue sculture in marmo pregia-to di artisti Internazionali a dai nostri affreschi meravigliosi.


The Oval applied

The Castle is a multi-fleet from receipt of the Baroque style, with four areas with large capacity and four suites of about 70 square meters each placed in the towers of the castle.

The whole castle is painted with oval frames and gold leaf. The property covers a total area of 30000 square meters, faithfully reproducing every detail in a real “me-dieval castle.”In addition, the Flotta Castle is characte-rized, and made unique by its rich marble sculptures by international artists to our wonderful frescoes.


Nonostante l’immensa opera realizzata tutti gli affreschi sono stati realizzati con un ottima fattura e hanno creato la vera anima del castello. Anche i più piccoli disegni visti da vicino risultano ricchi di preziosi particolari come si faceva solo anticamente. Non si può pensare che la tecnologia entri in maniera preponde-rante in un lavoro come questo. Ancora la mano dell’uomo, la capacità dell’arti-sta e il tempo sono i protagonisti e da tutto ciò non si può prescindere. Lavori unici e preziosi anche se ispira-te a grandi artisti rimangono comunque opere d’arte esclusive.

Il Castello privatoI proprietari di questo castello sono facoltosi tedeschi che ama-no recuperare antichi siti. La loro passione si sfoga proprio nella ristrutturazione e nell’arredo di dimore prestigiose. Proprio per questa natura hanno preteso da noi i cartoni a matita del primo progetto. Per questo antico frantoio del 1300 situato nella bel-la Palma di Mallorca hanno chiesto lo schizzo direttamente sul muro da affrescare, ma una volta vista la nostra perizia ci hanno accordato fiducia totale. Nella “Sala del pianoforte” abbiamo provveduto all’asportazione del vecchio intonaco rinnovando ed affrescando tutta l’intera sala.

Leipzig ...were was Napoleon

Il Quartier generale di BonaparteFiore all’occhiello di un Impotante Istituto bancario della ger-mania dell’Est, questo Palazzo ha un importantissimo valore storico. Qui Napoleone il 17 giugno 1815 passò la notte prima della grande battaglia di Waterloo, dove si affrontarono le trup-pe napoleoniche e gli eserciti di parte degli Stati aderenti alla settima coalizione. Gli architetti dell’istituto ci contattatarono per ridare lustro a questo antico sito che ormai versava in con-dizioni disastrose. Eravamo nella storica Lipsia una delle grandi città della germania e il lavoro si presentava molto difficile date le condizioni precarie delle murature.

The Bonaparte headquarterThe pride of a bank impotant Institute of East Germany, this buil-ding has a very important historical value.Here on June 17 1815 Napoleon spent the night before the great battle of Waterloo, where Napoleon’s troops fought against the armies of the States Parties to the seventh coalition. The architects of the institute contacted us to restore prestige to this historic site which already was in dire conditions. We were in Leipzig , one of the great historic cities of Germany, and the work presented is very difficult given the poor condition of the walls palace.

Per ridare originalità al sito decidemmo quindi di asportare completamente gli inonaci e rifarli ex novo. Una volta aspor-tata la vecchia malta procedemmo quindi con l’applicazione del nuovo intonaco e l’esecozione degli affreschi in stile otto-cento. Chiaramente l’intenzione progettuale non era quella di celebrare l’imperatore francese, ma di ridare fasto e signorilità al palazzo dato il suo valore storico.


To restore the original site so we decided to remove completely inonaci and redo from scratch. Gli affreschi realizzati vanno collocati storicamente a ri-dosso del perido durante il quale Napoleone soggiornò in questo sito: alla fine del ‘700 ai primi dell’ottocento. Ancora una volta un recupero di grande valore storico e culturale. Nei giorni che passammo a lavorare a Lipsia durante gli scavi vennero ritrovati nei giardini numerosi reperti napoleonici.

The frescoes are located close to the historical period we stayed in during which Napoleon this site: to the 700 to the first century. Once again a great recovery of historical and cultural value.

Our work was required to create their own Italian restaurant and we have achieved the main hall decorated with a fresco of the landscapes.

Come sempre abbiamo realizzato un cartone a colori dell’affresco incontrando da subito la fiducia del pro-prietario. Il salone dell’antica costruzione dove ha sede l’albergo presentava delle suggestive volte a crociera. Per dare più profondità e realismo all’affresco abbiamo inserito un finto loggiato con un’antica colonna a trec-cia e da qui il paesaggio ha preso vita come per incanto. Suggestivi sentieri si perdono fra gli alti cipressi in una scena di fine estate. L’anticatura data dai raffinati colori pastello rende la quinta molto elegante.


As always, we made a cardboard color fresco meeting immediately trust the owner. The hall of the old building which houses the hotel presented some fascinating vaults. To give more depth and realism to the fresco we included a dummy with an old porch column braid and from here the landscape began life as if by magic. Suggestive paths are lost among the tall cypress trees in a scene at the end of summer. The date from fine antique pastel colors makes it the fresco very elegant.

The ceilings of the restaurant come alive with a crowded group of cherubs in the clouds. Further down the walls of the APS accept the fresco of a scene typically Cheka hillside village with a traditional acute roofs from houses. In other areas of the Hotel we have created beautiful floral-inspired ceilings. Each fresco has been meticulously edited and retouched by artis up to the extreme perfection.

I soffitti del ristorante prendono vita con un gruppo di putti affollati fra le nuvole. Più sotto le pareti della SPA accolgono l’affresco di una scena collinare tipicamente Ceka con un tradizionale paesino dalle case a tetti acu-ti. In altre zone dell’Hotel abbiamo realizzato bellissi-mi soffitti di ispirazione floreale. Ogni affresco è stato curato meticolosamente e ritoccato dagli artisiti fino a raggiungere la perfezione estrema.


Bruxelles beauty center

Il Classico in Piscina Nella ricca Bruxelles uno dei più importanti Beauty center ci in-caricò di decorare tutta la nuova struttura della SPA dalle saune alla grande piscina. Si lavora su una struttra di nuova costruzio-ne e ciò ci facilita molto il compito. Invece a complicare l’opera è il progetto che prevede di affrescare tutta la parete frontale della piscina, fino ad una altezza di nove metri. Non sarà certo questa altezza a spaventarci data la nostra esperienza e “Mister No Problem”, cosi battezzato Manar dai nostri clienti, comincia il suo progetto. Grandi affreschi di stile classico italiano alle pa-reti e raffinati personaggi per le nicchie termali.

Classic in PoolIn Brussels, a rich center of the most important beauty we commissioned to decorate the whole new structure of the SPA from the large pool, saunas. We are working on a new building and this is a much easier task. Instead to complicate the work is the project that plans to paint the entire front wall of the pool to a height of nine meters. It will not be this height scaring our experience and “Mr. No Problem”, so named by our customers Manar, began his project. Big classic Italian style frescoes on the walls and refined characters for ther-mal niches.

Loggiati, balaustre, roseti infiore cascate e colline sul mare popolano le parei del Beauty center. Nella zona termale inve-ce le Belle sibille, un soggetto molto caro a Manar, vengono raffigurate all’interno di un peristillio e le zone di passaggio ricordano le antiche Terme romane. Il Grande arco neoclas-sico impreziosisce l’ampia finestratura della piscina.

Arcades, balustrades, blooming roses and waterfalls populate the hills to the sea of sarongs Beauty Centre. In the spa area instead Sibilla, a subject very dear to Manar, are depicted in a peristillio and passageways are reminiscent of the ancient Roman baths. The great neo-classical arch adorns the large windows of the pool.


Valkemberg Hotel

Europe - Holland

Fra Hall e Soppalco Questo Hotel in Olanda possiede una bellissima hall molto spa-ziosa sulla quale si affacciavano i piani dell’albergo. Pur essendo molto scenografico l’effetto dell’open space rimaneva privo di personalità e per questo l’intervento della decorazione della pa-rete si è reso particolarmente interessante. Abbiamo deciso per un decoro ornato Oro su fondo Rosso, una scelta elegante che ricorda i classici arazzi rinascimentali. L’affresco riporta un pa-esaggio notturno toscano sul cammeo centrale . La particolarità del lavoro è che è visibile da tutti i piani ed è infatti alto sette metri per tre metri e cinquanta di larghezza.

Between Hall and MezzanineThis hotel in the Netherlands has a beautiful spacious hall which opened on the floors. Although very dramatic effect remained open space devoid of personality and therefore the intervention of the wall decoration is made particularly interesting. We decided on an ornate gold decoration on red, an elegant choice that re-calls the classic Renaissance tapestries. The fresco shows a Tuscany night scene in in the central cameo. The peculiarity of the work that is visible from all floors and is in fact seven meters high by three meters and fifty wide.


Il grande affresco rosso Manar è stato realizzato con la tecnica dello strappo d’affresco. Il dipinto viene realizzato dal pittore in affresco e dopo viene srappato dal muro con un antica tecnica conservativa, uti-lizzando colla vinilica e colla di coniglio. Successivamente l’opera viene riposizionata ed incollata su una tela di cotone, ciò ne consente un facile trasporto. Cenni Storici: l’affresco I primi esempi di affresco risalgono all’epoca della civiltà minoica, sono stati rinvenuti affreschi greci, etruschi e romani. Straordinari sono gli affreschi pa-rietali ritrovati negli scavi di Pompei (vicino a Napoli) e in altri siti archeologici dell’era vesuviana. In epo-ca paleo-cristiana e alto-medioevale l’esecuzione di questa tecnica avveniva in modo molto rapido ed era molto semplice: venivano prima disegnati i contorni, in ocra, poi il riempimento, fino alle ombre.

Solo a partire dall’epoca romanica la tecnica inizia a raffinarsi: le figure sono ancora stese con contorno ad ocra rossa, ma vengono riscontrate l’uso di col-lanti per i colori (albume, cera fusa, colla animale). Inoltre in alcuni casi è possibile rilevare la presenza della guida per la figurazione, tracciate sull’intonaco fresco. Nel XIV secolo la tecnica del’affresco cono-sce in area centro e sud grande diffusione. Due importanti innovazioni sono introdotte dalle maestranze dell’epoca: l’uso del disegno preparatore lo svolgimento del lavoro a giornate.La sinopia è un disegno preparatorio alla stesura vera e propria del colore. Era stesa a pennello con terra rossa di Siena sull’ intonaco, e riproduceva in modo preciso le figure dell’affresco. Lo svolgimento dell’af-fresco diventa quindi il processo di una pianificazio-ne meticolosa dell’artista che deve, prima stendere l’intonaco, decidere quale parte eseguire e valtarne la stesura nell’arco della giornata. Con il Rinascimento, l’affresco conosce il momento di maggior diffusione. In area centro e sud viene abbandonato l’uso della sinopia e viene introdotto l’uso de cartone prepara-torio. L’intero disegno preparatorio veniva disegnato a grandezza naturale sul cartone. Le linee che com-ponevano la figure erano poi perforate. Una volta appoggiato il cartone sul muro fresco, era spolverato con un tampone intriso di finissima polvere di car-bone; in tal modo la polvere, passando attraverso il tratti perforati del cartone lasciava una traccia da se-guire per la stesura a pennello. Questa tecnica è chia-mata “spolvero“ (utilizzata ancora oggi), ma venne

impiegata esclusivamente per le parti del dipinto che necessitavano maggior precisione nell’esecuzione dei dettagli (come i volti o alcuni particolari delle vesti e decorazioni). Nel XVII e XVIII secolo, il mutamen-to del mercato dell’arte e dei rapporti di potere tra ar-tisti e committenti si riportò sulle tecniche pittoriche quali l’affresco. La preparazione del supporto pittori-co è sempre più raffinata (gli affreschi commissionati a quest’epoca sono, infatti, in numero molto mag-giore rispetto le epoche precedenti), lo sviluppo del cartone preparatorio e del bozzetto, cioè del disegno in scala, molto particolareggiato dell’affresco; il boz-zetto veniva sottoposto al giudizio del committente e se approvato si procedeva all’esecuzione.

Fra i più famosi affreschi italiani ricordiamo La Cap-pella Sisitina di Michelangelo Buonarroti, sempre in Vaticano le Stanze Palatine di Raffaello Sanzio e, a Milano, L’ultima cena di Leonardo da Vinci.

H istorical: fresco The first examples of frescoes dating back to the Minoan, were discovered Greek, Etruscan and Ro-man frescoes. In the fourteenth century the technique known in del’affresco widespread central and southern areas.Two major innovations are introduced by the crafts-men of the time: the use of preparatory drawings in the course of work days.

The under-drawing is a preparatory drawing for the actual drafting of the color. It was applied by brush with red earth of Siena on ‘plaster, and accurately re-produced the figures of the fresco. The execution of the fresco becomes the artist’s meticulous planning process that must, first spread the plaster, run and valt decide which part of the writing throughout the day. With the Renaissance, the fresco know the mo-ment of greatest diffusion. In central and southern area is abandoned the use of ocher and introduces the use of preparatory cartoon. The entire preparato-ry drawing was drawn to size on the carton. The lines that made up the figures were then punched. Once placed the cardboard on the wall cool, it was dusted with a swab soaked in fine coal dust, so dust, passing through the perforated sections of cardboard left a trail to follow for the writing brush. This technique is called “dusting” (still used today), but was used only

for parts of the painting that needed greater preci-sion in the details (such as faces or clothes, and some details of the decorations). In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the art market and the change of power relations between artists and patrons are reported on painting techniques such as fresco. The preparation of pictorial support is more and more refined (the frescoes commissioned in this period are, in fact, in far greater numbers than earlier ones), the development board and the preparatory sketch, that is, drawing to scale, of detail ‘ fresco, the sketch was submitted for evaluation by the customer and if approved will proceed with the execution.

Among the most famous Italian frescoes include ”the Sistina Chapel” by Michelangelo Buonarroti, more in the Vatican the “Stanze Palatine” by Raffaello San-zio, and in Milan, The “Ultima cena” by Leonardo da Vinci.

F rescoes & friendsIl valore dell’affresco non sta solo nell’esecuzione artisti-ca dell’opera, ma anche nell’esecuzione tecnica: la princi-pale difficoltà infatti dell’affrescatore nel realizzare questa tecnica sta nel fatto che non permette ripensamenti: una volta lasciato un segno di colore, questo verrà immediata-mente assorbito dall’intonaco. Un’altra difficoltà consiste nel capire quale sarà la tonalità effettiva del colore: l’into-naco bagnato, infatti, rende le tinte più scure, mentre la calce tende a sbiancare i colori, per tali motivazioni questa tecnica richiede al suo esecutore massima concentrazione e lunga esperienza specie nello studio del colore.Testimonianza della ventennale esperienza di Manar Al Ani, Babilonia Arte, sono le innumerevoli presenze nelle più importanti fiere d’Arte nazionali ed internazionali.
