COME FUNZIONANO GLI UV-C L’intero spettro UV può uccidere o inattivare molte specie di microrganismi, impedendo loro di riprodursi. L’applicazione di energia UVC per inattivare i microrganismi è anche conosciuta come Irradiazione Germicida o UVGI. L’esposizione UVC inattiva gli organismi microbici come batteri e virus alterando la struttura dei legami molecolari del loro DNA. Gli acidi nucleici infatti assorbono fortemente le radiazioni UVC. La conseguenza dell’assorbimento è la dimerizzazione tra 2 basi pirimidiniche (citosina o timina) adiacenti in un fila-mento del DNA. Tale evento compromette la crescita e inibisce la replica-zione del microrganismo. Distruggendo la capacità dell’organismo di riprodursi, questo diventa innocuo in quanto non può colonizzare. Dopo l’esposizione UVC, l’organismo muore senza lasciare alcuna prole e la popolazione del microrganismo diminuisce rapidamente.

HOW UV-C WORKS The entire UV spectrum can kill or inactivate many species of microorganisms, preventing them from reproducing. Applying UVC energy to inactivate microorganisms is also known as Germicidal Irradiation or UVGI. UVC exposure inactivates micro-bike organisms such as bacteria and viruses by altering the structure of the molecular bonds of their DNA. Nucleic acids in fact strongly absorb UVC radiation. The consequence of the absorption is the dimerization between 2 pyrimidine bases (cytosine or thymine) adjacent in a DNA row. This event compromises growth and inhibits replication of the microorganism. By destroying the organism’s ability to reproduce, it becomes harmless as it cannot colonize. After UVC exposure, the organism dies without leaving any offspring and the population of the microorganism rapidly decreases.
