Finisce l’estate, ma non iltempo della vacanza sulGarda. Basta scorrerel’elencodeglieventi inca-

lendario per rendersi conto chesettembre è un mese straordina-riamente ricco di opportunità. Èlarispostaadunfenomenoincre-scita, quello del turismo che untempo era considerato di bassastagione e che invece oggi rivesteun ruolo sempre più rilevante. Illago è attrattivo, sotto ogni puntodi vista, tutto l’anno.L’autunno gardesano, in partico-lare, è una piacevole appendicedella bella stagione, con un climaancora decisamente mite e gior-nate piacevoli da vivere all’aper-to. È il tempo della vendemmia,difestedell’uva erassegne delgu-sto. È il periodo di tante feste dipiazza, ultime occasioni per tra-scorrereliete serateall’apertopri-ma dell’arrivo dell’inverno, checomunque non è mai rigido.Non a caso il turismo gardesanonasce come fenomeno pretta-mente invernale. Fu sul finirdell’Ottocento che si realizzaro-no i primi alberghi nelle «stazioniclimatiche»rivierasche,allorafre-quentatedall’autunnoallaprima-

vera dagli aristocratici di tutt’Eu-ropa, in fuga dalle temperaturefredde d’Oltralpe. Dall’inizio de-gli anni Ottanta dell’800, seguen-do l’esempio dei luoghi di curadel Garda Trentino, Gardone, laculla del turismo sul Garda bre-sciano,divennemetadiunnume-ro crescente di turisti, soprattut-totedeschi, chearrivavano in set-tembre e svernavano sul lago.Quello stesso clima mite che hadato il via all’industria gardesanadelle vacanze, oggi prettamenteestiva, caratterizzerà le settima-ne a venire. Settembre, ma ancheottobre e novembre, continue-ranno a regalare belle giornate.Le occasioni, come detto nonmancheranno: i grandi eventi ve-licidell’alto lago,lerassegnebota-niche settembrine, come «I giar-dini di Benaco» di Salò e Gardo-ne, sagre, raduni d’auto, concer-ti, eventi sportivi. Il lago, insom-ma, non va in letargo. Anzi, permolti questo è il periodo in cui ilGarda offre il meglio di sé, dopoun’estate chiassosa e affollata.Scorrendo queste pagine vi fare-te un’idea di quello che vi aspet-ta: un settembre cadenzato daeventi e iniziative per tutti i gusti.

Summer is over, but not vacationtime on Garda Lake.Just a glimpse at thewhat-to-do-and-see list can

convince that September is a monthextraordinarily rich of opportunities.That is how the local hospitality industry isresponding to the growing and increasinglysignificant trend of what was once calledlow-season tourism. The lake is attractiveall year long, from every point of view. Withits decidedly mild climate and enchantingdays to be enjoyed outdoors, the Gardaautumn is a delightful extension of thewarmer season. It is the time to harvest andcelebrate grapes, to indulge the palate atfood festivals, to mingle with the townsquare crowd and spend pleasant eveningsal fresco before the arrival of the winter,which, however, is never too harsh aroundhere. It is no coincidence that the Gardatourism had brumal origins. It wasn't untilthe end of the 19th century that the firsthealth resorts were built along the lake'sshores.They catered to European aristocrats who,seeking to flee the rigid transalpinetemperatures descended upon the regionfrom fall to spring. Two decades prior to theturn of the 19th century, following theexample of the curative springs establishedalong the Trentino side of the lake shores,Gardone, the centre of Garda tourism in theBrescia province, became the preferreddestination of increasing numbers oftourists, especially Germans, who came inSeptember to spend their winters on theLake. The upcoming week will unfoldunder the same mild climate which haspromoted the development of the Gardatourism industry, today an almostexclusively summer affair. September, butalso October and November will continueto offer delightful days. And there will beplenty to enjoy: sailing events on the upperlake, gardening exhibitions, such as «TheBenaco Gardens» of Salò and Gardone,food festivals, vintage car rallies, concertsand sport events. In short, the lake does nothibernate. On the contrary, for many this isthe time when Garda offers its best, after anosy and crowded summer. These pagestell visitors what awaits them: a Septemberoffering events and initiatives for everytaste.

Inthis way, they aim at capturinga quality tourism whose expectations aremet also by the tranquillity andpeacefulness the village offers torediscover flavours and scents of theMorainic Hills. That is why for the wholemonth of September bus line servicesconnecting Sirmione, San Martino,Pozzolengo, and Parco la Quietewill remain in service. Moreover, with thesame daily ticket, it is possible to use theSaia bus line service connecting Brescia toVerona. Once in Pozzolengo, and aftervisiting the historic centre, castle andparish, it is possible to climb on a bike toreach the hills and admire the wetlands. September, are Lonato's majorSeptember attraction. Not only

because the best skeet athletes in theworld will gather on Trap Concaverde’s 12courts, giving life to the season's mostimportant competition. The event alsooffers a rich corollary of initiatives,appointments, and exhibitions involvingguests and locals alike. First off, at theentrance to the historic centre, by theroundabout near the cemetery stands nowa beautiful iron sculpture (pictured),commissioned by Trap Concaverde. Thesculpture depicts a stylized skeet athletewhose outline will become theChampionships logo. The event will hostthe best Olympic trap, double trap andskeet athletes. Competition is alsosupported by the Expo and bound toattract the attention of world media,becoming for the second time in the lastdecade a significant promotion means,thanks to the Trap Concaverde facility.1,200 people, including athletes,accompanying people and coaches,coming from 90 countries will participatein the event. In addition to competitions,which will award ten tickets for theupcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games(finals will be broadcast live on Rai Sport),many additional initiatives will make the2015 competition a one-of-a kindexperience. Among them are skeet-relatedseminars, as well as artistic and musicalevents. Following the Opening Ceremony,scheduled for Thursday, 10th September at5:00 p.m., the public will enjoy two shows.The first will be an air show featuringvintage planes that will fly above the courtleaving a trail behind them in the threecolours of the Italian flag. Da Virgilio a Catullo è la poesie a te-ner banco nel mese di settembrenella penisola che ospita una verae propria kermesse poetica. L’ab-

binamento fra Mantova, terra natia di Virgi-lio e la Sirmione di Catullo è frutto dell’intesafra numerosi enti. Tutto parte dal Concorsonazionale di poesia «Terra di Virgilio» intito-latoaPublioVirgilioMarone,poetamantova-no che nella sua vasta opera ha cantato an-che i luoghi gardesani . From Virgil to Catullus, poetry is centre stageon the Peninsula in September, a monthhosting a true poetry festival.The work of many local organizations has

made possible the coming together of Mantua, Virgil’snative city, and Catullus’s Sirmione. It all starts fromthe «Land of Virgil» National Poetry Competition,named after Publius Vergilius Maro, the Mantuanpoet who, in his impressive literary works, also sangthe praises of Garda places. September, at 5:00 p.m., the festival will close its doorsawarding prizes to selected winners at Sirmione’sCallas Palace. In the two following days, the secondpart of the «2015 Virgil International Poetry Festival»will get under way. The Festival (born out of an idea ofthe Corte dei Poeti Association) has already involvedthe city of Mantua, which has played host to a richprogramme involving the participation of notablenational and international poets on the 22nd, 23rdand24th May .On the 18th, 19th and 20thSeptember 2015, the Festival'ssecond portion will be held in Sirmione with otherauthors. Quattro temi, otto ore, due passioni.Sonoquesti gli ingredientidella «ma-ratona fotografica» organizzatadall’Amministrazione comunale diSirmione in programma il 13settem-

bre. L’iniziativa ha preso il posto del concorso fo-tografico «Sirmione Award» andato in scena neimesi estivi negli ultimi anni con grande parteci-pazione di appassionati. Quest’anno la sesta edi-zione del premio ha cambiato pelle e punta tuttosulla «Sirmione photo maraton» maratona di ungiorno. L’invito è rivolto a tutti: bambini, giovani,turisti italiani e stranieri, residenti, ospiti di pas-saggio nella penisola cara a Catullo. E per chi,ignaro della manifestazione, non ha portato consé l’apparecchiatura fotografica non ci sono pro-blemi: gli organizzatori forniranno macchinettefotografiche usa e getta.Per essere protagonisti di questa giornata- mara-tonabasta aver appunto un dispositivo fotografi-co. Four themes, eight hours, two passions. These are the

ingredients of the «Photographic Marathon» organised by

Sirmione’s Municipal Administration for the 13th

September.

The initiative has replaced «Sirmione Award», a photography

competition that engaged photo enthusiasts over the summer

months of the last few years. This year, the sixth edition of the

Award has changed its skin and given its best for the «Sirmione

Photographic Marathon» event, a single-day competition.

Everybody is invited: children, youngsters, Italian and foreign

tourists, residents, and visitors passing by the Peninsula, so near

and dear to Catullus's heart. And for those who, unaware of the

event, did not bring their camera along, no problem: the

organisers will provide disposable cameras.

A camera is really all is needed to be part of this event for a day.

Everything goes: from the smartphone or iPad camera to the

classic type. This year, photographers will challenge one another

in a true and true marathon, with the enchanting Sirmione as

backdrop. It will truly be a one-of-a-kind opportunity to live the

Garda Lake's Pearl intensely and creatively, interpreting it

through new and passionate lenses.

Each participant will work with four different themes that will be

revealed only on the 13th September, the day of the Marathon. He

or she will submit to the evaluation committee up to four shots

(one for each theme). Each shot will offer the photographer an

opportunity to express his or her passion for photography and the

town. Everything will start and end in a single day, in 8 hours,

between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Just eight hours to capture the

most exciting moments, the most picturesque spots of this land

which for centuries have been conquering hearts and fascinating

poets and artists.

Works that best capture Sirmione’s beauty and magic will be

awarded prizes (the first alone is 1 000 Euros), and recognition.

The appointment is for the 13th September, a day to live Sirmione

with heart and eyes in a photographic marathon among art,

history and culture. As in the past, pictures will be exhibited on

the walls of the Callas Palace in the historic centre during the

autumn months, during a big exhibition dedicated to the

Marathon. Pictures will also embellish the 2016 Sirmione

calendar, as a way of keeping images alive until the next edition.

The Mega-Director Viscount Cobram strikes again. MauroBresciani, nicknamed the «crazy bicycle mechanic», is right onthe mark with this re-enactment of the unforgettable scenefrom the movie «Fantozzi contro tutti».

This idea, a tribute of sorts to a cult movie for an entire generation, hashad more success, sponsoring and promotion than hundreds of adsand brochures. Last year’s first edition has engaged many «crazy»cyclists who were submitted to unspeakable hardships on the Gardacourse. 70 cyclists showed up at the pre-race check in Via Castello, alldressed with Fantozzi-like clothes and accessories, big aviator goggles,armpit-high underwear, and vintage bikes. There was no snow stormon that day, unlike in the movie, nor mirages nor, luckily, heart attacks.The happy-go-lucky atmosphere engendered by the re-enactmentallowed all participants to cross the finish line: a great success. This isthe reason why the first edition of the Cobram Cup re-enactment,celebrated by the media all through Italy, will not be the only one. Thesecond «tragic edition» will take place on the 27th September.The only rules are those requiring participants to re-enact the mostsurreal scenes of Fantozzi’s saga, to start with clothing, then move tomuscles because this year the path, though divided into three parts,each accompanied by adequate food supplies, in addition to thefamous «bomb», will be 22 kilometres long. It remains to be seen if thepesky Fantozzi cloud will ensure that the competition is re-enacted asfaithfully as possible to the movie. Everything can happen, includingthe arrival of the young Countess-Godmother Serbelloni MazzantiViendalmare. Once at the finish line, participants (about 150, with thepossibility of reaching 200), hunched on their bicycles and pressing onthe pedals, will receive a variety of prizes. The prize for the winner ofthe competition sponsored by the Municipality is an effulgent bicyclebuilt by Mauro Bresciani, himself, and featuring a 1980 Ferrari frame.Departure is at 10:00 a.m. from via Castello. La vocazione agricola del paese ècelebrata anche dallo stemma municipale,nel quale figura un tino per la pigiaturadell’uva.Visitare Soiano durante il mese di settem-bre, quando l’attività nelle vigne e nelle vec-chie cantine è in fermento per la vendem-mia, è un’esperienza sorprendente. Bastaraggiungere il paese, parcheggiare l’auto egodersi ilpaesaggio rurale,passeggiandoal-la ricerca di uno scorcio suggestivo, di unacantina o di un oleificio dove scoprire i pro-dotti più rappresentativi del territorio, di unmonumento o di un’opera d’arte. Sul-la base di una più antica torre, nel XIII seco-lo, fu eretto il campanile che ancora oggi sipuò ammirare.La salda tradizione religiosa ha promossonei secoli scorsi la costruzione di bellissimechiesericchedi opere dal grande valore arti-stico. L’edificio sacro più importante è laparrocchiale dedicata a San Michele, ma èda vedere anche la chiesa seicentesca dedi-cata a San Carlo, nella frazione di Chizzoli-ne. Venne eretta durante il 1610 a seguitodella visita pastorale di San Carlo Borro-meo, condotta nella diocesi di Brescia nel1580. Se il tempo di contatto è troppobreve, il vino è scialbo, incompleto, di co-lore non ben definito. Se si eccede, ancheper poco, il vino diventa un mezzo rosso,troppo vinoso, senza particolari caratteri-stiche. Si capisce quindi che l’uomo deb-ba saper cogliere «l’attimo fuggente» perseparare il mosto dalle bucce: di anno inanno questo varia in funzione dell’anda-mentostagionaleequindidelgradodima-turazione e sanità delle uve stesse.In pochi altri processi produttivi è tantofondamentale la sensibilità dell’uomo.Tutto questo per ricordare che queste set-timane, il periodocloudella stagione vini-cola, sono il periodo migliore per dedicar-si alle visite in cantina e alla ricerca di unvino della tradizione. Che a Moniga, ap-punto, non può che essere il Chiaretto.

too, as tradition demands, the firstgrape bunches are set aside toproduce Chiaretto, a fragrant roséwine, and one of the first Italianwines to receive the Docdenomination on the 21th July 1967.The particular wine makingtechnique used, which was codifiedback in the 19th century by theVenetian Senator PompeoMolmenti, who had a house andvineyards in Moniga, received adefined set of guidelines by theConsorzio Tutela Vini Bresciani in1962. By character, Chiaretto musthave to come into partial contactwith pomace, because this uniongives the wine its colour and certain

fundamental characteristics. Ifcontact is too short, the wine isbland, incomplete and of anundefined colour. If contact is toolong, even if only by a little, the winebecomes too red, grapey, and it doesnot show any particular peculiarities.It is absolutely important, therefore,to capture the «fleeting moment» inwhich it has to be separated frompomace. From year to year, the timeof contact changes based upon theseason, i.e. how long grapes took tomature and the grapes’ generalhealth. Only in a few other processesman’s sensitivity matters so much.All this to stress that these upcomingweeks, the peak of grapes harvesting,are the best time to visit wineries insearch of wines from the localtradition, which, in Moniga, can onlybe Chiaretto.

bre,quandoalle21 nell’edificiosacro avràluogoilconcerto d’or-gano con coro che chiuderà la programmazione 2015 del cartel-lone «Insieme a… Polpenazze». Lachiesetta fu la prima parrocchiale di Polpenazze, ricostruita nelXV secolo su un precedente edificio romanico.Segnaliamo infine che in settembre ci sarà anche l’opportunitàdi visitare il sito archeologico del Lucone, dichiarato patrimo-niodell’umanità dall’Unesco. Occasions will be aplenty in the weeks aheadto discover the tiny and secluded Saint Peter’s Church in Lucone, one of Polpenazze's mostcharming corners. The first is on schedule for 9:00

p.m., on Saturday, the 21st September, when the church'ssacred stage will be backdrop to a choral organ recital that willclose the 2015 edition of the «Insieme in Polpenazze»programme. The complimentary evening is the result of anartistic-cultural partnership between the Local Department ofTourism and the local Studio B association. Saturday, the 3rd

October, is dedicated to a guided tour of the church organizedby the Lacus association (gardalacus.it). Until October 31, theassociation proposes a rich calendar of cultural rendezvousand visits in search of the Garda Middle Ages (participation iseuro 8 per person; for information and reservation: ph.331.2386503, email : [email protected]). The guidedexploration (departing at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, the 3rd October)is titled «From Pieve di Bottenago to the Saint Peter’s Church inLucone». It will kick off in Bottenago, one of Polpenazze’shamlets, today inhabited by a couple dozen persons, and oncehome to Saint Mary's church, a 12<nd+>th-centuryRomanesque building torn down at the beginning of 1970's tomake room for a single-family home. In addition to writtenarchival sources, the church's existence is corroborated by theon-site discovery of some Botticino stone fragments found inthe demolition debris. Destination of the walk is the SaintPeter’s Church in Lucone, located along the rim of the basin ofwhat was once Lake Lucone, site of one of the most significantprehistoric settlements of the Italian peninsula (in the picture).The tiny shrine was Polpenazze’s first parish church, rebuilt inthe 17th century on an existing Romanesque structure. Last butnot least, September will also offer the opportunity to visitLucone’s archeological site, one of UNESCO’s World HeritageSites. This active excavation area continuously yields humanremains, pile dwellings, tools and pottery dating back to theBronze Age sheltered by water and mud of an area reclaimedcenturies ago. At present, the autumnal schedule of activities isyet to be finalized. It is possible, nevertheless, to preview it onthe Facebook page «Archeological Sites at Lucone», which alsofeatures live updates on the excavation activities.

È sicuramenteseicentesco anche il dipin-to eseguito presumibil-mente per mano di Girola-mo Rossi, raffigurante ilbattesimo del Cristo adopera del Battista con SanSebastiano e la Madonnache costituisce la pala d’al-tare, riccamente decoratada una cornice lignea raffi-gurante putti e figure vege-tali.Labaseligneadell’alta-re risale invece al 1734.Di fianco alla pala d’altarealtriduedipinti, eseguiti daBernardino Podavini nel1738: uno raffigura GesùBambino alla presenza diSant’Antonio da Padova eunaltrosanto, l’altro laMa-donna col bambino, sanGiovannino e San LuigiGonzaga.Il nostro itinerario alla sco-perta dei luoghi sacri sichiude a Raffa, dove sorgela chiesa della Madonnadella Neve. Cominelli Palace, in the Cisano hamlet,hosts again the Cominelli Foundation

Award for contemporary jewellery.

The acclaimed exhibition was

inaugurated on the 29th August and will close its

doors on the 4th October. The ancient 17th-century

rooms of the Raffaele Cominelli Foundation's

home will showcase jewellery embodying the

eclectic creative universe of an extremely refined

and elegant artistic niche (sampled in the

picture).

The jewels are produced by distinguished artists

and designers from all over the world. Their

creations are made with a variety of materials,

from the most traditional and precious (like gold

and hard stones), to the most modern (resins,

steel and porcelain), and unusual (paper, rubberand silicone).

More than 80 jewellery pieces selected by Renate

Slavik, Director of the Vienna Slavik Gallery,

compete in the 6th edition of the contest

promoted by the Cominelli Foundation and the

Italian Association of Contemporary Jewellery, in

collaboration with the Municipality of San Felice.

This event transforms Cominelli Palace into a

stage for experimentation and research aimed at

the new generations. In this framework, students

from prominent international schools are invited

every year to showcase their creations. This

year's edition has selected works by students of

the Glasgow School of Art.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to view

the Cominelli Foundation Permanent Collection

of contemporary jewellery, as well as watchvideos produced by graphic design students of

Brescia's LABA.

The exhibition is open on Saturdays (5-8 p.m.),

and Sundays (10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 5 - 8 p.m.);

entrance is free of charge.

This year’s fall in Gardone promises to go on

record as a long and edacious season. Fall is

devoted to celebrating seasonal dishes and

ingredients: mushrooms, grilled specialties,

and game, to be proposed at the «Fall at the table -

Flavours of the San Michele hinterland» event,

organized by the local Tourist Office. Six

appointments at local restaurants will liven up as

many weekends until November: Colomber (ph.:

Two September weekends (18th-19th and 25th-26th) will

be all about mushrooms. Among local species, we cite

the Boletus edulis (the noble porcine), the most

common, yet most delectable honey fungus

(Armillaria mellea), the golden chanterelle

(Cantharellus cibarius), the gilled mushrooms and the

much sought-after Caesar’s mushroom, (Amanita

caesarea).

In October (17th-18th and 24th-25th), Brescia grilled

specialties will be the unrivalled protagonists. It will

be the triumph of slowly grilled meat covered in

Alpine summer house butter. Last but not least, in

November (6th-7th and 1th-14th), it will be the turn of

game-based dishes. The local culinary tradition

includes hares, wild boars, fallow deer, deer and roe

deer, as well as avian species like pheasants, quails,

partridges and woodcocks. Reservation is mandatory.

Changing subject for a moment, on Saturday, the 12th

and Sunday, the 13th the town’s promenades will be

livened up by street artists. From noon to 6 p.m., the

Saint Francis of Assisi, on his way back

from the Holy Land, paid a visit to his brothers

living in Brescia, Bergamo, Milan, Pavia and

Cremona friaries.

On his way from Verona, Saint Francis made a

stop at Garda Lake and, on the Brescia shore, was

bestowed with a house and field to be turned

into a hermitage for friars. Some scholars

pinpoint this retreat at Isola del Garda (the most

probable spot); others in Gargnano.

What is certain is that evidence of Franciscan

presence in Gargnano is aplenty. As local

tradition has it, the Franciscan friars first

introduced lemon in the Benaco region, and

Gargnano was one of the Garda capitals of citrus

production.

Those who wish to further delve into this

captivating historical theme may avail

themselves of two wonderful opportunities. The

first: on Friday, the 25th September, at 8:30 p.m.,

in the Castellani Civic Hall, Dr. Elena Ledda and

The Truffle Festival is back with anabundance of novelties, and nowat its 17th edition.This feast of the palate dedicated

to the much treasured tuber unearthed inthe Tignale woods, will be held on 25th -27th September, and includes an encore on3-4 October. It will turn the spotlights onthose now ripen black truffle species, likeTuber aestivum (commonly called«scorzone»), Tuber uncinatum (a summeryield) and Tuber mesentericum (orordinary black truffle, the most widelyavailable species growing in the BrescianUpper Garda). This year's event features aricher agenda that includes guided tourswith truffle foragers, a cooking school, amakeshift restaurant aptly named«Ris-tufo» (Ris-truffle) right on piazzaledelle Ginestre, the Festival's centre ofgravity, where two cooks will dish outtruffle-based specialties from noon to 4p.m., and, last but not least, books andmusic presentations.

«Travel through 100 years of history asquickly as possible!" That is how organisersintroduce the Tremosine by night event, anafter-dark hill climbing race for

mountain bikes, bicycles and runners. The appointmentis on schedule for Saturday, the 12thSeptember. Thecompetition will unfold on an 11 Km uphill coursecomplete with a 550 metre incline. This is hardly, andnot just, a race against time, but a true and true run backin history, through one of Europe's most impressiveroads: the centuries-old Strada della Forra, an asphaltpassage unwinding through cliffs, overhanging walls,gorges, and gradients.In each category the winner is who completes in theshortest time the distance separating the lake-side townof Campione from the settlement of Pieve, on theplateau. Though catering primarily to bona fide athletes,the competition is also open to those who merely seekthe thrill of pedalling or running under the cover ofdarkness along the Forra. In lo-calità Fortini, in un terreno di proprietà comuna-le, su due ruderi della Grande Guerra, sono staticostruiti durante la primavera e l’estate 1975 unrifugio, intitolato alla memoria dell’alpino limo-nese Bonaventura Segala, caduto sulle monta-gne di Ledro il 25 settembre 1916, ed una chieset-ta dedicata a San Giovanni Nepomuceno. Rifu-gio echiesetta sono stati inaugurati il7settembre1975, ovvero 40 anni fa.Nelcorso degli anni sisono aggiuntiun locale de-posito e i servizi igienici, è stata ampliata l’area diservizio, è stato posato il selciato in pietra. Nel2002-2003 è stato ristrutturato il bivacco, si è co-struita una vasca di 70 metri cubi per il recuperodell’acquapiovanaper antincendio,siè attrezza-ta una piazzola per l’atterraggio dell’elicottero.L’area presenta particolari pregi paesaggistici.Merita una visita.

Discovering Limone’s hinterland, with Fortini as itscentre piece, with the Black Feathers: an opportunityoffered to tourists and local residents alike on Sunday,the 13th September during the much-awaited «Alpine

Celebration», organised by Limone sul Garda's Ana Group.As usual, the event is paired with a spectacular patrol march,which will kick off the day of activities.Departure is at 9:30 a.m., from the «Bonaventura Segala» Alpinehut (pictured above). Participants will battle it out on a 9 Km.course that will traverse some of the most picturesque corners ofLimone's mountainous region, along the slopes of Mounts Guiland Carone.Senior competitors will pursue the coveted Aldo Girardi Trophy;their junior counterparts the Agostino Tosi Trophy. Awards willbe handed out to the most senior and junior patrols, and to theteam completing the uphill leg in the shortest time.The day at Fortini will continue at 11:30 a.m. with masscelebrated at the little church dedicated to Saint John atNepomuk and, at 12:30 p.m., a classic Alpine ration. The mealwill be shared with Limone's Alpine volunteers, a civil protectionnucleus headquartered at the via Caldogno's MultipurposeCentre, courtesy of the Municipal Administration. Theorganisation has at its disposal vehicles, helicopters, and trucksequipped with high-pressure pumps. It enlists some 90members and 30 more among friends and associates. Itslife-long commitment is aimed at protecting the especiallyimpervious mountain range of Limone's hinterland. In Fortini,in the spring and summer of 1975, on what were once two WWIdilapidated buildings resting upon municipal property, havebeen erected a mountain hut named after Bonaventura Segala,an Alpini trooper fallen on Ledro mountains on the 25th

September 1916, and a little church dedicated to Saint John atNepomuk. Both buildings were inaugurated forty years ago, onthe 7th September 1975.Over the years, the compound has come to include a warehouse,sanitation services, an expanded service area, and cobblestonepavement. In 2002-2003, efforts went to restructuring thebivouac, and assembling a 70 cubic metre tank for rainwatercollection (to be used for fire-fighting purposes), and a heliport.The complex offers astonishing panoramic views. It is definitelyworth a visit.
