CIELO E TERRA

Con un percorso di ca. 3 ore, si entra in contatto non solo con il paesaggio masoprattutto con lo spazio naturale: boschi, le specie naturali e quelle introdotte,il “turbin” (frigo dell’ottocento) il Museo del boscaiolo, l’arboreto e alcuni gio-chi musicali per dire che tutto è in armonia musicale. Un sentiero piacevolenon impegnativo da percorrere con i 5 sensi continuamente sollecitati da pa-norami, profumi, dal silenzio e dalla pace.

Auf der 3-stündigen Wanderung taucht man nicht nur in die Landschaft ein,sondern erlebt den gesamten Naturraum, den Wald mit seinen einheimischenund eingeführten Arten, den “turbin” (den Kühlschrank des 18. Jahrhunderts),das Waldarbeitermuseum, das Arboretum und bei einigen Klangspielen auchdie musikalische Harmonie. Ein angenehmer, nicht allzu schwieriger Weg, denman mit allen Sinnen geniesst, die laufend vom Panorama, den Düften, derStille und Ruhe stimuliert werden.

Sur un parcours de 3 heures environ, on se trouve en contact non seulementavec le paysage mais surtout avec un espace naturel: les bois, les espèces na-turelles et celles qui ont été introduites, le “turbin” (frigo du 18e siècle) le muséedu bûcheron, le jardin botanique et quelques effets musicaux pour démontrerque tout est en harmonie. Un sentier agréable qui n’est pas difficile à parcou-rir mais où les 5 sens sont continuellement sollicités par les vues panoramiques,les parfums, le silence et la paix.

It takes approximately 3 hours, in which one comes into contact not only withthe landscape, but more importantly, with natural space: woodlands, the natu-ral species and those introduced therein, the “turbin” (a refrigerator from theeighteen hundreds), the Woodcutters Museum, the arboretum and a few musi-cal games to show that it is entirely in musical harmony. It is a very pleasant andeasy path to enjoy with one’s five senses continuously enticed by panoramas,perfumes, silence and peace.

PARCO NATURALE DEL MONTE CASLANO

Il sentiero didattico del Monte Caslano permette di conoscere dal vivo, in unospazio esiguo, un paesaggio naturale degno di particolare interesse e di rigo-rosa protezione perché riunisce, in esiguo quanto attraente spazio, elementi so-prattutto geologici e botanici diversi che, nell’insieme, formano una sintesipreziosa del paesaggio naturale dell’intera regione. Il sentiero didattico segna-lato e munito di 15 tavole esplicative consente di percorrere agevolmente que-sto parco. Il percorso è adatto alle famiglie e alle persone anziane per unadurata di circa un’ora. Per gli appassionati e specialisti dello studio della geo-logia, della flora e della fauna può trovare ulteriori dettagli nella cartina detta-gliata redatta nel 2008 dall’Università di Zurigo, in vendita presso MalcantoneTurismo, Caslano.

Auf diesem Naturlehrpfad lernt man unmittelbar eine hoch interessante undschützenswerte Naturlandschaft kennen. Auf kleinstem Raum ist hier eine be-achtliche geologische und botanische Vielfalt vereint, die insgesamt eine wert-volle Synthese der Naturlandschaft der ganzen Region darstellt. DieWanderung dauert rund eine Stunde und ist auch für Familien und ältere Per-sonen geeignet. Ausführlichere Angaben finden Fachleute und alle an Geolo-gie, Flora und Fauna Interessierten in der 2008 von der Universität Zürichredigierten Karte, Verkauf c/o Verkehrsbüro, Caslano.

The educational path of Monte Caslano gives one the opportunity, in a rela-tively small area, to directly come in touch with a natural landscape worth par-ticular interest and protection because it reunites, in this small but lush area,elements that are geologically and botanically diverse. Together they form a pre-cious synthesis of the natural landscape of the entire region. The path is idealfor families and the elderly and it takes approximately one hour to walk. Forspecialists and those fond of the study of geology, flora and fauna, further de-tails can be found in the detailed map issued in 2008 by the University of Zurich.

SENTIERO DEL CASTAGNO

Il sentiero si snoda lungo un percorso di ca. 10 km nell’Alto Malcantone dovei villaggi di Arosio, Mugena, Vezio, Fescoggia e Breno si integrano armonio-samente tra boschi e prati. Il percorso presenta 8 punti didattici marcati sul ter-reno e offre numerose informazioni sui processi di lavorazione e uso del legnorispettivamente della castagna e dei suoi derivati.

Die Wanderung führt auf ca. 10 km Wegen durch die Dörfer von Arosio, Mu-gena, Vezio, Fescoggia und Breno, die sich malerisch in die Landschaft einfü-gen. Entlang der Strecke sind Informationstafeln aufgestellt, die Auskunft überdie Verarbeitung und Nutzung des Kastanienholzes, sowie der Kastanie undderen Erzeugnisse geben.

Ce sentier serpente le long d’un parcours de 10 km environ dans le Haut Mal-cantone où les villages d’Arosio, Mugena, Vezio, Fescoggia et Breno s’intè-grent harmonieusement dans le paysage de forêts et de prairies. Ce parcoursprésente huit points didactiques marqués sur le terrain et offre de nombreusesinformations sur les processus de travail et sur l’utilisation du bois ainsi que dela châtaigne et de ses dérivés.

The approximately 10 km path winds along a route in the high Malcantone re-gion in which the towns of Arosio, Mugena, Vezio, Fescoggia and Breno areharmoniously integrated between woods and fields. The path presents 8 dif-ferent educational markers on the terrain and offers a great deal of informa-tion regarding the chestnut and its derivatives, as well as clarifications aboutworking the wood and its usage.

L’acqua come fonte di energia è nota dall’antichità. Il mulino ad acqua è forsel’applicazione più conosciuta. Un’applicazione meno comune è quella del ma-glio. In queste officine del tempo passato si lavorava il ferro per ricavarne at-trezzi e oggetti di uso comune. Con un salto relativamente modesto la ruotafa girare il perno principale sul quale sono infissi a raggiera tre cavicchi dilegno duro. Questi cavicchi, nel movimento di rotazione, toccano la coda del-l’asta del maglio vero e proprio e lo sollevano. Appena il cavicchio ha finitola propria corsa sulla coda tutta l’asta e il maglio cadono sull’incudine. Il ritmodei battiti dipende dalla velocità di rotazione della ruota che a sua volta è de-terminata dalla quantità di acqua che scorre. Il maglio di Aranno è stato co-struito dalla famiglia Righetti nel 1860.È possibile visitarlo internamente ed osservarne il funzionamento.

In diesen Werkstätten wurden früher Werkzeuge und Ge-brauchsgegenstände aus Eisen geschmiedet.Mit einem relativ geringen Gefälletreibt dabei das Rad den Hauptbolzen an, in den drei strahlenförmig ange-ordnete Zapfen aus Hartholz eingelassen sind. Durch die Drehbewegungtreffen die Zapfen auf den sogenannten Schwanz, das Stielende des Hammers,und heben diesen an. Jedes Mal, wenn ein Zapfen seinen Lauf über denSchwanz beendet hat, fällt der Hammer wuchtig auf den Amboss.Der Schlagrhythmus hängt von der Drehgeschwindigkeit des Rades ab, diewiederum von der durchfliessendenWassermenge bestimmt wird. Die Hammer-schmiede von Aranno wurde 1860 von der Familie Righetti erbaut.Sie kann auch drinnen und in Betrieb besichtigt werden.

Water as a source of energy has been known since ancient times. The water-wheel is probably the best known application. An application that is not quiteas common is the hammer powered by water. In times gone by, steel wasworked in this workshop to obtain tools and objects of common use.With a very slight jump, the wheel pivots by turning on a main pin on whichthree hard-wood pegs are fixed in a ray pattern. During the rotations, thesepegs touch the end of the power hammer’s pole and lift it. As soon as the peghas terminated its round and has elevated the end of the hammer’s pole, the en-tire pole and hammer fall onto the anvil. The rhythm of the beats depend on thevelocity of the rotation of the wheel which is determined by the quantity of waterflowing. The hammer of Aranno was built by the family Righetti in 1860.It is possible to visit it and observe how it functions.

Lungo il ruscello Gattino, che scende da Miglieglia, troviamo le miniere Baglionie Franzi. Si tratta di filoni dove predominano arsenopirite e quarzo. L’arsenopi-rite contiene piccole quantità d’oro e di argento. Da una analisi effettuata su al-cuni campioni dal Burford (1933) si ebbero i risultati seguenti: arsenico 27% delminerale, Oro 12 g per tonnellata di minerale, Argento 38 g per tonnellata di mi-nerale. Più a monte e all’altezza di una cascatella, troviamo la miniera Baglioni.Queste miniere vennero sfruttate con esito poco soddisfacente fra il 1878 e il1884. In particolari campioni di questo minerale, ricchi di tetraedrite (solfuro diantimonio e rame), si possono riscontrare piccolissime lamelle di oro nativo.

Am Gattino-Bach, der von Miglieglia talwärts fliesst, befinden sich die Baglioni-und Franzi-Minen. Es handelt sich um Adern, in denen Arsenopyrit und Quarzvorherrschen. Arsenopyrit enthält geringe Mengen an Gold und Silber. Auf der Höhe eines kleinen Wasserfalls befindet sich die Baglioni-Mine.Diese Minen wurden von 1878 bis 1884 ausgebeutet, doch der Ertrag war ge-ring. In bestimmten, an Tetraedrit (Schwefelantimon und Kupfer) reichen Probendieses Minerals, können sich winzige Lamellen von reinem Gold befinden.

D’après une ana-lyse effectuée par Burford (1933) sur quelques échantillons, on obtient les résul-tats suivants: minerai composé de 27% d’arsenic; une tonne de minerai contient12g d’or et 38g d’argent. À la hauteur d’une petite cascade, on rejoint la mineBaglioni. Ces mines ont été exploitées de 1878 à 1884 mais avec un rendementpeu satisfaisant. Dans certains échantillons de ce minerai, riches en tétrahydrite(sulfure d’antimoine et de cuivre) on peut relever de très fines lamelles d’or natif.

Along the creek called “Gattino” (or Kitten Creek) that winds down from the townof Miglieglia, one comes across the Baglioni and Franzi mines. These mines con-tain veins of arsenopyrite and quartz. Arsenopyrite contains small quantities ofgold and silver. From analyses carried out on a few samples by Burford in 1933,the following results were found: 27% of arsenic, 12 g of gold mineral per ton,38 g of silver mineral per ton. The veins are contained in a mica schist of a grey-brown color. At the level of the small cascade is where the Baglioni mine is lo-cated. These mines were exploited without much success between 1878 and1884. In particular, samples from these mines, rich in tetrahydrate (antimony andcopper sulphur), even small sheets of native gold, can be found.

TRACCE D’UOMO

La lunghezza del tragitto è di ca. 4 km, percorribile in ca. 2 ore, e si snoda at-torno al nucleo di Castelrotto nel comune di Croglio. Lungo il percorso si pos-sono ammirare il caseificio, i vigneti, la “giazzera” ed il roccolo.

Diese zweistündige, ca. 4 km lange Wanderung schlängelt sich durch die Hü-gellandschaft von Castelrotto. Man wandert durch Rebberge und entdeckt: eineKäserei, einen speziellen Kühlkeller und einen alten Vogelfangturm.

Le parcours fait env. 4 km et peut être parcouru en env. 2 heures. Il serpente au-tour de Castelrotto, dans la commune de Croglio et permet au randonneur d’ad-mirer la fromagerie, les vignobles, la “giazzera” (glacière) et le “roccolo”(tenderie).

Following this route, which winds around the village of Castelrotto one comesinto contact with the landscape and various structures: from the cheese dairiesand vineyards to the ice houses and lookouts used by hunters for birdwatching. The length of the path is approximately 4 km and is easily travelledin approximately 2 hours.

Il percorso ci porta alla scoperta di una trentina delle oltre ottanta meridianedipinte sulle facciate delle case a testimonianza del patrimonio storico dellesocietà che ci hanno preceduto.

Auf diesem Weg entdecken wir dreissig der achtzig Sonnenuhren dieser Re-gion, die man an den Fassaden der Häuser bewundern kann. Es sind faszinie-rende Zeugen der Kultur vergangener Jahrhunderte.

Ce parcours nous mène à la découverte d’une trentaine parmi les plus de qua-tre-vingts cadrans solaires peints sur les façades des maisons, témoins du pa-trimoine historique des sociétés qui nous ont précédés.

This route takes us on a path to discover thirty of the more than eighty sundialspainted on the walls of the houses as evidence of the historical patrimony of thesociety before ours.

Giovanni Rossi, padre del Merlot e della Regione Malcantone“Uno dei pionieri del Merlot è stato il dottor Giovanni Rossi, personaggio le-gato alla vita e allo sviluppo del Malcantone”. Il merito della nascita di questovino spetta quindi a quest’uomo di inizio Novecento, già consigliere di Stato,che promosse – con la pubblicazione “La Ricostruzione dei Vigneti nel CantoneTicino” – la creazione di un vino ticinese che avrebbe dovuto affrontare il mer-cato nazionale e quello internazionale. Erano gli anni in cui le colture ticinesifurono colpite dalla fillossera, un insetto devastante anche nella nostra regione,si presentò quindi la necessità di una ricostruzione dei vigneti locali. Fu lo stessoRossi a sperimentarla nella tenuta Vallombrosa di Villa Orizzonte a Castelrotto.Si optò per il Merlot, unica varietà per tutto il Cantone, importato dalla regionedi Bordeaux, che meglio si adattò alle condizioni climatiche locali.

Jahrhundert als Ständerat mit der Publikation “La Ricostruzione dei Vignetinel Cantone Ticino” die Schaffung eines Tessiner Weins forderte und förderte,der sich auf dem nationalen und internationalen Markt behaupten sollte. Zudieser Zeit wurden die Tessiner Weinberge von der Reblaus befallen, die auchin unserer Region verheerende Schäden anrichtete, so dass die Rebberge neubestockt werden mussten. Rossi führte in seinem zur Villa Orizzonte in Castel-rotto gehörenden Weingut Vallombrosa Versuche durch. Die Wahl fiel auf Mer-lot als einzige Rebsorte für den gesamten Kanton, da sie sich den hiesigenklimatischen Bedingungen am besten anpasste; sie wurde aus der Region Bor-deaux importiert.

Giovanni Rossi, père du Merlot et de la région MalcantoneLe docteur Giovanni Rossi, personnage lié à la vie et à l’essor du Malcantonea été un des pionniers du Merlot. Le mérite de l’origine de ce vin revient doncà cet homme du début du 20e siècle, alors conseiller d’état, qui, dans la publi-cation de “La Reconstruction des vignobles du Canton du Tessin” fit la promo-tion de la création d’un vin tessinois qui aurait dû affronter le marché nationalet international. C’était l’époque où les cultures du Tessin furent touchées par lephylloxéra, un insecte dévastateur dans notre région aussi. C’est pourquoi lanécessité d’une reconstruction des vignobles locaux s’imposa. Ce fut ce mêmeRossi qui l’expérimenta dans la propriété “Vallombrosa de la Villa Orizzonte àCastelrotto.” C’est le Merlot qui fut choisi, variété unique dans tout le Canton,importé de la région de Bordeaux et qui s’adapta le mieux aux conditions cli-matiques locales.

It is thanks to this man, who was thenCouncil of State, that in the early 1900’s this wine was born, since he pro-moted it through the publication entitled “The Reconstruction of Vineyards inthe Canton Tessin” as well as through the creation of a wine from Tessin thatcould take on the market both nationally and internationally. It was during thoseyears in which the local cultivations had been hit by phylloxera, an insect thatdevastated even our region, thus calling for the reconstruction of the local vine-yards. It was Dr Rossi himself who tested the grape at the Vallombrosa Farm atVilla Orizzonte in Castelrotto. He opted to use the Merlot grape imported fromthe Bordeaux Region of France, as the only variety for the entire Canton, givenit was the one best to adapt to the local climatic conditions.

Die Antragssteller müssen folgende Unterlagen einreichen:A Die Zulassungsdokumente mit Nachweis des HerkunftslandesB Ein Versicherungsnachweis RC mit Gültigkeit in der Schweiz, der die ver-

langte minimale Deckung von CHF 2’000’000.— garantiert. Andernfallswird von Amtes wegen der Beitritt zu einer Kollektivversicherung mit der Über-nahme der Kosten von CHF 20.— für die Prämie verfügt.

Das Boot wird einer technischen Kontrolle unterzogen; es muss insbesondere den Anfor-derungen an Sicherheit und Schiffbarkeit genügen, keine Umweltverschmutzung verursa-chen und entsprechend den Schweizer Bestimmungen ausgerüstet sein. SchweizerFeriengäste, die ihr Boot immatrikulieren möchten, wenden sich an das kantonale Schiff-fahrtsamt in Camorino.

Il Sacro Monte di Varese, con le sue 14 cappelle che si snodano lungo un acciot-tolato di ca. 2 km è indubbiamente il più affascinante itinerario mariano al mondoe dal 2003 è stato inserito dall’UNESCO nella Lista del Patrimonio dell’Umanità.La via sacra fu iniziata nel 1605 ed era da secoli meta di pellegrinaggio per lavenerazione della Madonna Nera. Al termine del suggestivo itinerario si troval’antico borgo di Santa Maria del Monte sui cui svetta il Santuario dedicato allaVergine Maria. Si crede che sulla via che porta al Sacro Monte, siano passati, inca. 400 anni, 60 milioni di pellegrini.

Vierzehn Kapellen säumen die rund zwei Kilometer lange, kopfsteingepflasterteAndachtsstrecke auf den Sacro Monte von Varese, den wohl faszinierendsten Ma-rienweg der Welt. Die Via Sacra wurde 1605 angelegt und gehört heute zumUNESCO-Weltkulturerbe. Schätzungsweise 60 Millionen Pilger stiegen in den ver-gangenen vier Jahrhunderten zum “Heiligen Berg” hinauf, wo die Schwarze Ma-donna verehrt wird. Am Ziel des beeindruckenden Weges überragt dasSanktuarium der Jungfrau Maria den alten Wallfahrtsort Santa Maria del Monte.

En1605, on commença la construction de la route sacrée, qui était depuis des sièclesun lieu de pellerinage pour la vénération de la Madonna Nera. Au terme de cetitinéraire évocateur se trouve l’ancien bourg de Santa Maria del Monte sur lequelse dresse le sanctuaire dédié à la Vierge Marie. On pense qu’en environ 400 ans,60 millions de pellerins sont passés par la route qui mène au Sacro Monte.

Costruito a strapiombo sul lago Maggiore, l’Eremo è composto da tre nucleidistinti, distribuiti lungo un costone roccioso. Secondo la leggenda l’eremo fufondato da Alberto Besozzi di Arolo, un usuraio scampato a un naufragioper intercessione di Santa Caterina d’Alessandria nel 1170 e ritiratosi a vitaeremitica sul Sasso Ballaro.

Die Einsiedelei auf einem Felsvorsprung über dem Lago Maggiore besteht ausdrei getrennten Gebäuden, die an der Klippe errichtet wurden. Der Legendenach wurde sie von Alberto Besozzi aus Arolo gegründet. Dieser Wuchererüberlebte 1170 durch die Fürsprache der Heiligen Caterina von Alessandriaeinen Schiffbruch und zog sich danach als Eremit auf den Sasso Ballaro zurück.

Construit en surplomb sur le lac Majeur, l’Ermitage est composé de trois no-yaux différents, distribués tout le long d’une corniche rocheuse. Selon la lé-gende l’Ermitage fut fondé par Alberto Besozzi d’Arolo, un usurier échappéd’un naufrage par l’entremise de Sainte Catherine d’Alexandrie et qui me-nait une vie d’ermite sur le Sasso Ballaro.

Perpendicular to Lake Maggiore, The Monastery is composed of three distinctparts, placed along a rocky ridge. According to the legend the monasterywas founded by Alberto Besozzi of Arolo, a loan-shark who survived a ship-wreck by intercession of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in 1770 and retiredto a hermit’s life on the Sasso Ballaro.

Nel 1500 Giraldino Porta acquistò una grande proprietà e costruì una dimorale cui tracce sono ancora visibili. Gianangelo III della Porta trasformò la VillaDella Porta Bozzolo tra la fine del 17.mo secolo e l’inizio del 18.mo secolo. Incontrasto con i canoni architettonici del tempo lo scenografico giardino baroccofu impostato su di un’asse principale parallelo alla facciata della villa. Furono col-legate in sorprendente successione, dal basso in alto, il lungo viale di accesso,il pianterreno principale sistemato ad aiuole, quattro terrazze congiunte da unagrandiosa scalinata, un vasto declivio verde denominato “il teatro”, chiuso dallagrande fontana terminale, e il ripido viale di cipressi che si inerpica nel boscofino al culmine del colle che domina la vallata e la proprietà.

Im Gegen-satz zu den architektonischen Regeln der Zeit, nach denen der Garten mit denwichtigsten Salons eine Achse bilden sollte, liess er einen neuen Zugangsweg an-legen, der das Hauptparterre mit den Beeten verband, wobei die vier Terrassenmit einer majestätischen Freitreppe und dem von einem Springbrunnen abge-schlossenen, “Theater” genannten Hang verbunden waren. Eine lange Zypressen-allee führt auf den Gipfel des Hügels.

Au XVIème siècle, Giraldino Porta fit l’acquisition d’une grande propriété et con-struisit une demeure dont on peut encore voir les vestiges. Elle fut transforméeentre la fin du XVIIème et le début du XVIIIème siècle par Gianangelo III dellaPorta. Faisant fi des règles architecturales de l’époque, le jardin baroque scéno-graphique fut implanté sur l’axe principal parallèle à la façade de la villa. Unelongue allée conduit de manière étonnante du parterre principal, avec ses mas-sifs de fleurs, aux quatre terrasses qui convergent vers un majestueux escalier, ter-miné en son sommet par une clairière en pente appelée “théâtre” où trône unegrande fontaine. De là, une allée bordée de cyprès grimpe dans la forêt pour at-teindre le faîte de la petite colline qui domine la vallée et la propriété.

In the 16th century Giraldino Porta purchased a large property and built a home,the traces of which are still visible today. Gianangelo Della Porta III carried outtransformations to it around the turn of the 18th century. In contrast to the archi-tectural cannons that prevailed at the time requiring the principal axis of a gar-den to be aligned with the main rooms of the house, he had a new entranceroadway constructed to connect the main level to the paths and to join the fourterraces to a majestic stairway with a vast sloping ground called “The Theatre”that was closed in by an elaborate fountain. Il borgo dipinto di Boarezzo, situato in Valganna, è posto su un fianco del montePiambello (1129 m s/m.); è costituito da poche case in sasso, strade strette e viot-toli acciottolati ed è circondato da boschi di faggi e castagni, che caratteriz-zano un paesaggio tipicamente montano.

Boarezzo im Valganna-Tal ist für seine Wandbilder bekannt, die viele Häuserzieren. Das Dorf am Hang des Monte Piambello (1129 m ü. M.) besteht aus we-nigen Steinhäusern, schmalen Strassen und gepflasterten Gässchen, umgebenvon den für das Berggebiet typischen Buchen- und Kastanienwäldern.

Le village peint de Boarezzo en Valganna est situé sur un flanc du mont Piambello(1129 m.); il est constitué de quelques maisons en pierre, de rues étroites et desentiers pavés de cailloux et il est entouré de bois de hêtres et de châtaigniers,caractéristiques d’un paysage typiquement montagnard.

The colourful village of Boarezzo in Valganna valley is situated on the slopes ofMount Piambello (1129 mt). It consists of just a few stone houses, narrow streetsand cobbled alleys, and it is surrounded by beech and chestnut woods whichcreate a typical mountain landscape.

Posta alle pendici del Monte Orsa, probabilmente fu fondata da Giulio Ce-sare. Famosa è la “Pietra di Viggiù” estratta dalle colline limitrofe, materiale dacostruzione e da decorazione. Numerosi sono i suoi tesori, come il centro sto-rico ove si trovano Villa Borromeo, elegante edificio tardo-neoclassico.

Der Ort am Hang des Monte Orsa wurde sehr wahrscheinlich von Julius Cäsargegründet. Berühmt ist der Sandstein von Viggiù, der von den umliegenden Hü-geln stammt und als Baumaterial oder für Verzierungen verwendet wird. Zu denSchätzen Viggùs gehört das alte Zentrum mit der eleganten, spätklassizistischenVilla Borromeo.

Située sur le flanc du Monte Orsa, elle fut vraisemblablement fondée par Giu-lio Cesare. La célèbre “Pierre de Viggiù”, matériau de construction et de déco-ration, est extraite des collines limitrophes. Viggiù abrite de nombreux trésors,comme le centre historique où se trouvent la Villa Borromeo et d’élégants édi-fices de style néoclassique tardif.

Viggiù, a small town situated at the feet of Mount Orsa, was probably foundedby Julius Caesar. The “Viggiù Stone” is famous and mined in the neighbouringhills. It is a stone which is used for both construction and decoration. There areuncountable treasures, such as the historical centre where Villa Borromeo issituated, an elegant late neo-classic building.

È un piccolo bacino situato nella parte nord della Valganna. Il suo principale af-fluente è costituito dal Torrente Margorabbia. Tra i più pittoreschi bacini lacustri,attrezzato con un centro balneare, un campeggio ed un maneggio per escur-sioni a cavallo, una pista ciclabile offre a chi attraversa la Valganna al calar delsole una meraviglia della natura, con riflessi cristallini sulle tranquille acque,delle montagne che si elevano quasi a picco sul versante occidentale.

Der kleine See im nördlichen Teil des Valganna-Tals gilt als einer der malerischstenüberhaupt. Sein Hauptzufluss ist der Margorabbia-Bach. Hier befinden sich eineBadeanstalt, ein Campingplatz, eine Reitschule für Ausflüge hoch zu Ross und einVeloweg. Wer bei Sonnenuntergang im Valganna-Tal unterwegs ist, kann ein ech-tes Naturwunder bestaunen: Auf der ruhigen Wasserfläche spiegelt sich kristall-klar das Bild der Berge wieder, die sich am Westufer beinahe senkrecht erheben.

C’est un petit bassin situé dans la partie nord de la Valganna. Le torrent Margo-rabbia constitue son principal affluent. Considéré comme l’un des bassins lacus-tres les plus pittoresques, équipé d’un camping, d’une plage aménagée, d’unepiste cyclable ainsi que d’un manège pour excursions équestres, il offre à ceuxqui traversent la Valganna au coucher du soleil une merveille de la nature avec,sur ses eaux tranquilles, les reflets cristallins des montagnes qui s’élèvent presqueen à-pic sur le versant occidental.

This small lake is in the northern part of Valganna. Its principal tributary is theriver Margorabbia. This is one of the most picturesque lakes in the area, with abathing resort, a campsite, an cycle way and stables for horseback excursions.It is beautiful particularly at sunset, with reflections in its crystal-clear water, andmountains rising almost vertically from its western side.
