Una sfida, una grande opportunità per i tanti attori che lavorano ogni giorno per rendere l’Italia grande e migliore. Il Soave, inscindibile unione di vino e territorio, ha scelto di avere una parte importante in questa ambiziosa partita che per sei mesi, ad iniziare da maggio 2015, proietterà l’Italia al centro della scena mondiale. Expo 2015 is a unique event, which in- volves not just Milan but the whole of our nation. It represents a challenge and a major opportunity for the many people and companies who strive every day to make Italy a great country. The Soave zone, where wine forms an indivisible part of its area of origin, has decided to play an important role in this ambitious exhibition which, from the beginning of May 2015, will project Italy onto the centre of the world stage for the next six months. Per lasciare un segno indelebile nella mente e nei cuori di milioni di visitatori e per ricorda- re che il futuro passa anche da qui, a due passi da Verona, il Consorzio del Soave ha scelto di cogliere quest’opportunità per atti- vare una importante riflessione interna met- tendo in discussione tutte le scelte fatte fino ad oggi sia aziendali che territoriali. Quasi due anni di intenso lavoro, coinvolgendo aziende e produttori sui temi più forti e at- tivando per ognuno un progetto specifico teso ad evidenziare opportunità e limiti. Il Soave da più di 100 anni è l’area a più alta densità viticola in Italia, un paesaggio stori- cizzato che ne definisce la distintività e tutta una serie di potenziali criticità. Proprio per questo abbiamo attivato tre pro- getti innovativi: 1) Il primo: Etichetta Verde del Soave che coinvolge oltre la metà della denominazio- ne in una riflessione su diciotto punti di po- tenziale criticità ambientali e genera un’e- tichetta efficace che definisce “l’impatto” che ogni azienda genera sul fronte del con- sumo di suolo, acqua e aria. 2) Segue il progetto “Biodiversità”, fatto in collaborazione con l’associazione “Biodi- versity Friends”, che sta mappando il livello di rispetto nei confronti del potenziale flo- ro-faunistico che questo territorio esprime. In particolare abbiamo indagato per ogni are- ale la vitalità biologica del suolo, il livello di accoglienza nei confronti di esseri vertebrati e invertebrati e la varietà e intensità di aree boschive ed essenze vegetali complemen- tari alla coltivazione della vite. 3)Con Soave Wine Park infine, il consorzio va invece a definire tutte le potenzialità che questa realtà ha in termini di accoglienza, accessibilità, sostenibilità, mettendo in luce talvolta anche i limiti che una coltivazione intensiva può generare. Quasi a sintesi delle tre specifiche azioni il Soave si propone come paesaggio storico italiano forte di una primogenitura di vigne- to coeso e specializzato e dell’identità pae- saggistica della pergola. Una sfida globale che i produttori hanno raccolto e che sarà sintetizzata in un volume e condivisa in tutte le forme moderne di co- municazione. Questo è fare Expo per il Soave. In order to leave an indelible sign in the minds and hearts of the millions of visitors to the Fair and to remind them that the futu- re is also happening here, a stone’s throw from the city of Verona, the Soave Consor- tium has decided to take this opportunity to reflect seriously about the decisions taken so far by individual wineries and by the area as a whole. This study period within the zone has involved almost two years’ hard work, que- stioning wine producers and vine-growers about the most important themes and set- ting up a specific project for each one ai- med at highlighting their individual potential and limits. For over 100 years now Soave has been the area with the highest density of vineyards in Italy, with a historical landscape that gives the zone its distinctive features but also some potentially problematic situations. For this reason, the Consortium has launched three innovative projects: 1) The Soave Green Label, which involves more than half the Denomination’s produ- cers in a reflection on 18 points of potential risk for the environment and generates an efficient labelling system that defines the en- vironmental impact of each winery with re- gard to the use of land, water and air. 2) The Biodiversity project, developed in cooperation with the “Biodiversity Friends” association, which involves mapping the level of respect for plant and animal life in this area. In particular, we have monitored in each sub-zone the biological vitality of the soil, the presence of animals (vertebra- tes and invertebrates) and the variety and intensity of wooded areas and other in the vicinity of the vineyards. 3) With the Soave Wine Park, the Consortium is seeking to define the full potential that this area possesses in terms of hospitality, ac- cessibility and sustainability, at times also hi- ghlighting the limits that intensive cultivation can create. Almost as a conglomeration of these three specific projects, the Soave area expresses its identity as a historic Italian rural region, which was the first to have a cohesive area devoted specifically to vines, as well as a di- stinctive landscape thanks to the use of the Pergola training system. The challenge of presenting this identity to the world has been accepted by the produ- cers and will be summed up in a book as well as being shared via all the modern means of communication.
