Milano. Riddled di Steven Holl scelto per il nuovo allestimento.Il progetto Riddled di Horm, disegnato da Steven Holl, è stato scelto dalla Triennale Design Museum di Milano per il progetto di allestimento“Serie e fuori serie”, un nuovo percorso che esplora il tema della produzione nella storia del design italiano. L’esposizione “Serie e Fuori Serie” - aperta al pubblico da marzo 2009 - indaga il rapporto dinamico fra produzione industriale e sperimentazione avanzata ed il ruolo del prototipo, o del pezzo unico, all’interno del contesto produttivo. Il contenitore aereo Riddled, realizzato in soli 39+39 pezzi numerati e firmati dall’autore, nasce dalla ricerca del grande Architetto americano sul movimento ludico della luce e delle porosità del legno, esercizio che dà vita un leggerissimo diamante ligneo.

Riddled by Steven Holl chosen for the new display.The project Riddled by Horm, designed by Steven Holl, was chosen by the Triennale Design Museum in Milan for its new display project“Serie e fuori serie”, a new exhibition that explores the theme of production in the history of Italian design. The exposition “Serie e Fuori Serie” - scheduled to start in March and continuethrough the next 14 months - investigates the dynamic relationship between industrial manufacturing and advanced experimentation, and the role of the prototype, or single piece, inside the production context. The airycontainer called Riddled by Steven Holl - named Time MagazineAmerica’s Best Architect in 2001 - was made with only 39+39 numbered pieces that are signed by the author. The project arises from the famous American architect’s research into the playful movement of light and the porosity of wood, an exercise that has created an ultra-light wooden diamond.

The neverending wave.Una architettura effimera che riprende gli ultimi progetti architettonici di Toyo Ito, come il Relaxation Park di Torrevieja, in Spagna: una grande onda dolce e flessuosa, che ha conquistato tutti, e dopo il primo allestimento al Salone del 2005, è diventata set fotografico, padiglione per mostre a Pordenone e a Pescara fino a diventare scenografico ingresso di un edificio a Shangai. Shanghai. The neverending wave.An ephemeral architecture similar to some of Toyo Ito’s recent projects, such as the Relaxation Park in Torrevieja, Spain: a big, delicate and flexible wave that captured everybody’s attention. After the first installation at the Salone (Milan 2005) it has become a shooting set, an exhibition pavilionin Pordenone and Pescara and finally a scenographical entrance to a building in Shanghai. Horm ha sponsorizzato l’evento e presenziato con un maestro ebanista che ha mostrato, durante l’inaugurazione, quanto sia importante la manualità nella realizzazione della panca Ripples, premiata con un Compasso d’Oro ADI nel 2004.

Horm sponsored the event and during the inauguration, with thehelp of a master craftsman, showed the important role hand made production plays in the realization of the Ripples bench, winner of the Compasso d’OroADI in 2004.

Un evento che ha coinvolto l’azienda, i rivenditori, alcuni amici che sono diventati partner, e Mario Bellini, che ha affiancato l’edizione speciale della libreria Sudoku, 300 pezzi in legno nerobianco e laminato a specchio, con una pochette in cuoio specchiante rivestita in legno nerobianco.
A spontaneously born initiative, created to collect funds for the ‘Schools for Africa’ Unicef project. An event that involved the company, the showrooms, some friends that ended up as partners and Mario Bellini, who together with a special edition of Sudoku bookcase (300 pieces in nerobianco wood and mirror laminated wood) designed a small bag in mirroring leather dressed with nerobianco wood.

Barcellona, Fiera Montjuic 2Il lungo tunnel che collega i padiglioni della fiera è stato pensato da Toyo Ito come un fiume che trasporta persone e cose da un luogo all’atro, tanto da usare cementi di diverse tonalità di azzurro per dare la sensazione dell’acqua in movimento. È possibile sostare grazie alle panche Ripples, nella versione standard e in una speciale curvata, entrambe perfette per l’uso in ambienti pubblici.
Barcelona, Fira Montjuic 2The long tunnel that connects the fair pavilions has been thought by Toyo Ito as a river that moves people and things from one place to another. He reinforced the sensation of flowing waterusing different tones of blue to color the concrete. It is also possible to rest, thanks to Ripples benches, in the standard or curved version, both perfect for the public space use.

Una attività che lo impegna da pochi anni e che inizialmente lo ha visto lavorare solo con aziende italiane, del calibro di Alessi, Cletomunari, Driade, Electrolux, Rotaliana. E naturalmente Horm. Nell’allestimento, oltre ai prodotti, sono stati usati gli stand progettati per il Salone di Milano nel 2004 e nel 2005. La mostra è stata a Santiago del Cile, Pescara, Vicenza, Gent e Pordenone.

An activity that started few years ago and that at the beginning was related only with Italian companies such as Alessi, Cletomunari, Driade, Electrolux, Rotaliana and, obviously, Horm. La Triennale.Una mostra negli spazi di Material Connexion per presentare l’innovativo materiale che Horm utilizza per alcuni dei suoi prodotti, come i mobili disegnati da Steven Holl e da Diego Vencato. Un sandwich di legno di soli 2,2 mm di spessore, il cui strato centrale funziona da cerniera, consentendo la progettazione di mini architetture scultoree dalla grande pulizia formale.

La Triennale.An exhibition in the Material Connexion space presented the innovative material that Horm is using for some of their products, such as the furniture pieces designed by Steven Holl and Diego Vencato. It is a wooden sandwich that is only 2,2 mm thick, whose inner layer works as hinge, allowing the opportunity to design sculptural architecture on a small scale, creating an impressive formal simplicity.

Alvaro Joaquim de Melo Siza Vieira è nato a Matosinhos (Porto) nel 1933. Ha lavorato dal 1955 al 1958 con Fernando Tàvora e subito dopo ha aperto il suo studio professionale a Porto, dove ancora oggi svolge la sua attività. Oltre che a Porto Siza ha insegnato in diverse università degli Stati Uniti, in Sud America e in Svizzera. Invitato a partecipare a molti concorsi internazionali ha costruito opere prestigiose, tra le più importanti ricordiamo il Padiglione portoghese all’Expo di Lisbona ‘98, il Museo d’arte contemporanea di Santiago di Compostela, la chiesa di Marco de Canavezes premiata nel 2000 dalla Fondazione Frate Sole quale migliore chiesa costruita in quel periodo. Siza ha ricevuto altri importanti riconoscimenti tra i quali il Premio Mies van der Rohe, la medaglia d’oro della Fondazione Alvar Aalto, l’Arold W. Brunner Memorial Prize, il Praemium Imperiale. Numerose università di tutto il mondo gli hanno attribuito lauree ad honorem.

Partizia Bertolini, italiana, nasce nel 1962, studia arte e si diploma in Industrial Design presso l’Isia di Roma. Compagni di classe all’Istituto Europeo di Design di Milano cominciano a sviluppare i primi progetti in Comune e a mescolare i loro diversi caratteri progettuali. Collaborano dal 1991, dapprima a Vienna, poi si spostano a Bolzano dove, nel 1995, aprono uno studio di progettazione.Impegnati soprattutto nel settore dell’arredamento, alternando la loro ricerca tra “studio a tavolino” e laboratorio dove costruiscono e sviluppano prototipi.Partecipano a mostre, vengono selezionati e qualche volta premiati a vari concorsi.Da segnalare è il 1° premio ottenuto nelle edizioni del 1997 e 1998 di “Young & Design”.
Christoph Burtscher e Patrizia Bertolini - Chiristof Burtscher was born in Austria in 1964. He started as master-carpenter and wood carver. Patrizia Bertolini was born in Italy in 1964 and graduated from Rome ISIA, department of Industrial Design. They met at Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, where they started to work together mixing their different projective styles. 1991 they were in Vienna and then moved to Bolzano (Italy) where they started their new studio in 1995. Their preference goes to the furnishing sector and their prototypes are the result of research work combined with workshop activity. Their names can be found in several exhibitions and competitions. They were awarded with first prize at “Young & Design” 1997 and 1998.

Nel 1987 costituisce “Marson e”, studio di relazioni pubbliche, occupandosi della comunicazione di Bulthaup Italia, Montis, Palazzetti e Valcucine. Nel 1989 fonda, con Paolo Chiarot, Horm. Si occupa anche del packaging e dell’ingegnerizzazione: suoi sono gli imballi di Nino e Take e la serializzazione del tavolo Tola. Nel 1998 è progettista vincitore del Compasso d’Oro per la grafica e menzionato con la Segnalazione Speciale per il packaging di Take.

With an administrative background and a commercialvocation, Marson worked in the furniture field since his youth when he use to practice duringschool holidays in furniture companies in hisregion. Graduated in 1972, he started to workas a clerk in the furniture sector. In 1978 Marson started his own business and collaborated with various firms such as: Ciatti, Elam Pallucco, Triangolo. From 1985 to 1996 he worked as consultant and sales manager for De Padova. In the 1987 he established “Marson e”, public relation agency in charge of communication for Bulthaup Italia, Montis, Palazzetti and Valcucine. With Paolo Chiarot he established Horm in 1989. He started also to design himself the packaging and engineering of products: he created the packaging of Nino and Take and engineered Tola table. He has been acknowledged with the Compasso d’Oro Prize for Horm graphic design, and for the Take product packaging in the Honourable selection.
