The external lines are by Fulvio De Simoni whilst IdeaeItalia has developed the interior design together with the Wider team. The fabrics and towels are by Gentili Mosconi Home, whilst Boutsen Design provided the refined furnishings which can be admired in the photos.

u NON SI PUÒ SCRIVERE UN ARTICOLO QUALSIASI SUL WIDER 150 GENESI. Lo yacht è affascinante e innovativo nelle accezioni letterali di entrambi i termini e merita una descrizione che gli renda merito. Perché lo ho definito affascinan-te? Perché è uno yacht bello e tutto da scoprire. Perché innovativo? Non so da dove cominciare. Dalla propulsione che non è rivoluzionaria nel-le sue singole parti, ma lo è nella configurazione e nei risultati che ottiene? O dalle mille soluzio-ni ingegnose che consentono la migliore fruizio-ne degli spazi abitativi? Cominciamo da questo aspetto e in particolare dalla poppa che è un concentrato di ingegneria e creatività. Della pro-pulsione parleremo estesamente dopo.«Non posso affermare che il garage poppiero che si allaga trasformandosi in piscina sia una novità assoluta, ciò che è unico è il sistema che consente tale trasformazione», dice Tilli Anto-nelli. «L’ingegnerizzazione del portellone è stata molto laboriosa. Volevamo trovare la soluzione più affidabile, facile ed efficiente». Il portellone e la piattaforma poppiera sono stati disegnati per consentire facili operazioni di uscita e ingresso del tender, un Wider 32’, perfettamente sistema-to in un vano che lo contiene evitando qualsia-si spostamento. Non ci sono selle o invasature, il fondo della piscina è stato modellato sulla forma

della carena del Wider 32’ ma, a richiesta, può essere costruito su misura di un altro a scelta. Per fare uscire il tender, il portellone si alza, ag-ganciando la piattaforma poppiera e aprendogli il passaggio tra due respingenti che evitano spo-stamenti laterali. A questo punto il vano garage viene allagato e la sezione inferiore del portellone si abbassa tornando nella posizione originaria di piattaforma poppiera e chiudendo la piscina ver-so poppa. Ma non è finita qui. Due balconi a ri-balta laterali collegati alla piattaforma da bagno offrono ulteriore spazio esterno al beach club e illuminano la zona piscina.Ciò che colpisce è il livello di finitura dell’intero spazio. Non è un compromesso tra un’area tec-nica e una zona relax dedicata agli ospiti. Ci si dimentica di trovarsi nel garage del tender. L’am-biente è quello di un sofisticato beach club con piscina color smeraldo di 7 metri di lunghez-za e ampie superfici abitabili arredate con cura e rifinite in ogni particolare. È collegato al ponte superiore tramite due sca-le esterne simmetriche che portano al pozzetto, ma c’è anche una scala interna che collega diret-tamente al salone. Gli interni, sia nel salone che nelle zone comuni e in quelle private, sono carat-terizzati da un design lineare e da finiture e ma-teriali sofisticati. La qualità costruttiva è eccellen-

Gli allestimenti sono stati curati da Gentili Mosconi Home per la parte di tessuti e spugne, mentre Boutsen Design si è occupata dei raffinati complementi d’arredo che si ammirano nelle foto.



Videoworks ha realizzato la domotica e il progetto illuminotecnico. Per l’audio/video il sistema è totalmente centralizzato. La telefonia adotta il sistema Cisco con iPhone. Nelle zone interne ci sono prodotti Sonance di alta qualità. Nelle zone esterne ci sono casse Ask, sistemi Airplay, Party Mode, Cctv, Smart Tv Samsung e caricatori magnetici per iPhone.

Videoworks was responsible for the home automation and the lighting project. The audio/video system is fully centralized. The telephony uses the Cisco system through iPhone. The internal rooms are fitted with high quality Sonance products. The external areas feature Ask speakers, Airplay systems, Party Mode, Cctv, Samsung Smart Tv and iPhone magnetic charges.

te e l’effetto generale è di grande solidità. Grandi vetrate laterali mettono in comunicazione visiva l’interno del salone con l’esterno. In corrispon-denza delle porte l’impavesata è tagliata e sosti-tuita da una battagliola che consente di ammira-re il panorama anche stando seduti. Il rapporto interno esterno è presente un po’ ovunque e la cabina armatoriale beneficia di un bel balconci-no panoramico dove fare colazione o, sempli-cemente, godersi il panorama quando lo yacht è all’ancora. Anche in questo caso non si tratta di una soluzione inedita, ma la realizzazione fa la differenza. Non è necessario ricorrere all’equi-paggio per azionare il meccanismo che trasfor-ma una sezione della paratia della camera padro-nale in terrazza. Premendo un pulsante questa si abbatte lentamente e silenziosamente fino a rag-giungere la posizione orizzontale e dall’intercape-dine del pavimento fuoriesce una pavimentazio-ne in teak che porta il pavimento del terrazzo al medesimo livello di quello della cabina. Una ro-busta battagliola in acciaio inox realizzata da Canalicchio si apre automaticamente a prote-zione del balconcino. Durante la navigazione si può comunque godere dell’aria fresca del mare aprendo la finestra inserita nella paratia. Ovun-que la sensazione è di grande ariosità grazie ad un layout studiato nel dettaglio e al centimetro. La cabina armatoriale, a prua del ponte principa-le, è preceduta da uno studio/salottino che può essere separato ‘ermeticamente’ dalla zona notte chiudendo una porta/parete divisoria scorrevole. La cabina dispone di un bagno molto ampio ed elegante in cui domina una vasca da bagno in le-gno scuro la cui superficie è liscia come la seta.

Quattro belle e luminose cabine ospiti sul pon-te inferiore completano gli alloggi per gli ospiti. I nove membri di equipaggio dispongono di am-pie e ben rifinite cabine e di una dinette allegra e luminosa. Il comandante ha una splendida ca-bina adiacente la timoneria. Salendo ai piani alti, il ponte superiore accoglie un bel salone panora-mico che si apre su due passaggi laterali agget-tanti rispetto al ponte sottostante. A prua c’è una delle tante sorprese di bordo. Come una scatola delle meraviglie, la tuga si alza su quattro robusti pilastri snodati rivelando un salottino esterno. La ‘mano’ di Tilli Antonelli si ritrova un po’ dapper-tutto e anche in questo caso non è stata scelta la via più semplice e scontata, ma è stata trovata una soluzione tanto originale quanto funzionale. Si percepisce che ogni elemento è stato vagliato con meticolosità e intelligenza per offrire un pro-dotto di grande qualità. Se l’interior design può essere apprezzato grazie alle foto, non è possi-bile affidare alle immagini la descrizione del siste-ma propulsivo. La propulsione diesel-elettrica accoppiata a azi-pod è stata scelta per la sua affidabilità e effi-cienza oltre al comfort che garantisce. Il siste-ma è modulare e offre un alto livello di flessibilità grazie a quattro generatori da 350kW ciascuno a velocità variabile che possono operare indipen-dentemente. Le fonti di energia sono gestite dal Wider Management System che controlla l’ener-gia elettrica erogata dai generatori, dalla presa di terra e dalle batterie distribuendola secondo le esigenze. Gli azipod del Wider 150, accop-piati a motori elettrici che erogano 531kW ciascuno, montano due eliche contro-rotanti



che garantiscono eccellente manovrabilità. I generatori sono posizionati a prua mentre i due banchi di batterie al litio sono sistemati in due comparti a poppa del garage. La suddivisione delle aree tecniche tra poppa e prua ha consen-tito di dedicare il 25% in più di spazio alle zone abitabili. Abbiamo fatto una prova in mare nel-le calme acque antistanti Ancona e per render-ci conto di essere in movimento è stato sempre necessario guardare fuori. Navigando in modali-tà Zem, esclusivamente con le batterie, Genesi scivola silenziosamente sul mare a 5 nodi come una grande barca a vela e l’unico rumore che si percepisce è lo sciabordio dell’acqua sullo scafo. In questa condizione avremmo potuto farlo per 6 ore. Inoltre, dato che i generatori sono a giri va-riabili, si può scegliere il punto di funzionamento degli stessi per ognuna delle modalità di naviga-

La Fratelli Canalicchio Spa ha realizzato il sistema automatico di apertura e chiusura della battagliola del balconcino nella cabina armatoriale. Anche la movimentazione e la struttura dell’hard top del saloncino panoramico a prua del ponte superiore sostenuto da robusti pilastri in acciaio inox snodabili sono state realizzata da Canalicchio.

Si otterrà così un continuo riciclo: si accenderanno i generatori, si caricheranno le batterie al massimo, si spegne-ranno i generatori e si scaricheranno le batterie.

Questo costante ciclo di carica e scarica consen-te di usare gli accumulatori al meglio. In sostanza si può navigare a 14 nodi di velocità massima, 13 nodi di crociera; a 10 nodi in condizione Eco, consumando solo 68 litri ora, che è un record per un 47 metri; mentre i 45000 litri di combustibile garantiscono 4700 miglia nautiche di autonomia. I livelli sonori e le vibrazioni sono pressochè inesistenti: 38 decibel all’ancora e 44 decibel a 10 nodi in cabina armatore. La moda-

u YOU CANNOT WRITE JUST ANY ARTICLE ABOUT THE WIDER 150 GENESI. This yacht is charming and innovative in the literal sense of both words and deserves a description that does it justice. Why charming? Because it’s a



beautiful yacht with lots to discover on board. Why innovative? I don’t know where to start. Maybe from the propulsion, whose single parts are not revolutionary, but its configuration and the results it achieves certainly are. Or from the ingenious solutions that really make the most of the living spaces. Let’s start from the latter, and in particular from the stern, a perfect blend of engineering and creativity. We’ll talk extensively about the propulsion later.«I can’t say that the floating stern garage which turns into a swimming-pool is a novelty, but I can affirm that the system which allows it is unique», said Tilli Antonelli. «The most challenging part was the engineering of the hatch. We were looking for the most reliable, easy and efficient solution». Both the hatch and stern platform have been designed to make the getting in and out of the tender easier, a Wider 32’, perfectly moored in a compartment avoiding any displacement. No cradles have been built and the bottom of the pool is shaped to chime with its hull. On request, it can be adapted to

another tender. To get the tender out, the hatch turns completely up, hooking the aft deck and opening the passage between two buffers which prevent lateral movement. Then the garage floods and the bottom of the hatch turns back in the original position as stern platform closing the pool towards the stern. Furthermore, on each side, fold-down balconies connected to the stern platform give more space to the beach club and let plenty of light to the swimming-pool area.The top quality finishing throughout the entire area is simply striking. There has been no attempt to compromise between technical area and relaxing space for guests. You forget you are in the tender’s storage space. It’s

On the sun deck there’s plenty of room for relaxation, a bar with BBQ and fridge and a circular swimming-pool. When necessary a light awning can shade the central area of the deck. The external furnishings, the chaise-longue and the coloured and comfortable armchairs are by Paola Lenti.



more like a sophisticated beach club with a 7-metre emerald swimming pool and a spacious living area furnished elegantly and carefully down to the last detail. Externally, two sets of symmetrical stairs connect it to the cockpit on the top deck, while internal stairs lead to the saloon. The interior, including the saloon, communal areas and private quarters, boasts clean lines enhanced by the use of sophisticated materials and finishes. It exudes quality and solidity throughout. Lateral floor-to-ceiling windows visually connect the saloon to the outdoors. In correspondence with the doors, the bulwark has been replaced with a handrail which allows to enjoy the views while sitting down. Throughout the yacht the emphasis is on the connection with the great outdoors. The master cabin features a small panoramic balcony, ideal for breakfast, or simply to admire the views while at anchor. Again, this is not a new idea, but the way it has been achieved makes all the difference. There is no need for help from the crew to operate the mechanism that opens a side of the hull outwards, creating a private terrace. A button slowly and silently lowers the partition until it reaches a horizontal position and a teak floor comes out of the gap in the floor, levelling the surface of the terrace with that of the cabin. A strong stainless steel handrail, made by Canalicchio, opens automatically to protect the balcony. While cruising the window in the panel can be opened to enjoy the fresh air. The bright and airy feeling is consistent throughout, thanks to a clever layout that has been carefully thought in every detail. Ahead of the main bridge the master stateroom features a salon/office that can be separated from the bedroom with a sliding partition. The cabin has a spacious, elegant bathroom dominated by a bathtub with a very smooth dark-wood finish. Guest accommodation comprises four cabins located on the lower bridge. The nine crew members enjoy spacious and well finished cabins and a bright and pleasant dinette. The captain’s superb cabin is next to the wheelhouse. On the upper deck the panoramic skylounge opens onto two side terraces which overhang the bridge below. One of the many surprises of this yacht is astern. Like magic, the deckhouse lifts upwards on four strong pillars, revealing an outdoor lounging area. Tilli Antonelli’s touch is noticeable throughout and as usual simple predictable choices have been ignored in favour of original and functional alternatives. The care in selecting each element carefully and cleverly is tangible and the result is a product of amazing quality. If the interior design can be appreciated by looking at the photographs, no images can describe the propulsion system.

The diesel-electric propulsion with azipods was chosen because it offers reliability and efficiency, in addition to the comfort it provides. The system is modular and features great flexibility thanks to four variable-speed diesel generators of 350kW each which can operate independently. All the energy sources are managed by the Wider Management System which controls the power supplied by the generators, the shore-power and the battery packs, by distributing it according to the onboard systems needs. The Wider 150’s Azipods, coupled with electric engines of 531kW each, feature two contra-rotating propellers granting excellent maneuverability. The generators are set at bow, whilst the two lithium battery packs are

set into two compartments at stern. Having split the technical areas between the bow and stern, 25 per cent of space has been added to livable areas.We tested the yacht on the calm waters off the coast of Ancona. To make sure we were actually moving we had to go out and check. When cruising in ZEM mode, using only battery packs, Genesi slides silently along at a speed of 5 knots, like a huge sailing boat; the only noise that can be heard is the water splashing against the hull. We could have carried on like this for 6 hours. Additionally, the variable-speed generators can be set differently for each cruising mode: at 1400 rpm to offer top performance; at 1100 rpm to reduce vibrations and cruise in maximum comfort; at 1700 rpm to provide maximum power, allowing the battery packs to fully recharge within 1 hour. Continuously recharging and running down the batteries ensures the best use of the accumulators: the generators will be switched on, the battery packs will be recharged to the maximum, then the generators will be switched off and the batteries will run down again. So, the maximum speed is of 14 knots and the cruising speed is of 13 knots; at 10 knots, in ECO mode, it needs only 68 l/h, a record for a 47-meter yacht; while 45000 liters of fuel guarantee a range of 4700 nautical miles. Noise and vibrations are almost non-existent: in the master cabin, it registers 38 decibels at anchor and 44 decibel at 10 knots. The operating mode, from zero emissions mode using only the battery packs, to maximum speed with all four generators in use, can be selected remotely using one of the many iPads on board. B
