Page 5: Brochure Su'entu autunno 2014

prenuragiche, nuragiche, puniche, romane.

coltivati a vite.

Bovale sardo, Cagnulari, Cannonau, Chardonnay, Falanghina, Nasco,

Merlot, Monica, Moscato, Syrah, Vermentino.

a tracciare ci porterà lontano. Percorrerla insieme

Grazie all’incremento della ricettività turistica nelle aree rurali.

New wines from old lands.

To be ready today we have waited thousands of years. This is where it all began, where love for our land and the passion for wine led to the creation of our company, the Cantina Su’entu. Su’entu in the Sardinian language means “the wind”: wind that purifies the air, sweeps away the clouds and brings the good weather, wind that gathers fragrances and carries them long distances.Wind that blows across our land, Sardinia’s Marmilla region, meeting no obstacles, as if here and always it has been most welcome.Wind that crosses an ancient land, where the word history is written with a capital H. It is the land where “sa batalla” - the battle - was fought between the armies of Arborea and Aragon. It is the land where the prehistoric Nuragic peoples built their fortresses and developed their civilization. Today our vineyards grow in the shade of those ancient stone monuments, of the nuraghe that remains there in peace, overcome by the passing of time and the action of the wind, buried amid the rows of vines. We like to think that even then, in this very same place, the ancient inhabitants had such a profound relationship with this land that the fresh gusts of the northwest wind, the maestrale, were the harbingers of the arrival of good weather. It has taken us years of hard work to bring this land back to life: we ploughed it, fertilized it, planted and cultivated it. After thousands of years these places have come back to life, have become productive again and are now what they are today: magic places, a sanctuary for the soul and a citadel of the senses. It is in this special place that we have set up our winery; here is where we cultivate a dream and share it by means of our wines. Our wines are produced in small quantities; they are precious and rare, rich in the fragrance of our land carried far away by the blowing of our wind.

The stage of Sardinia’s history. Our winery is just a few kilometres from the town of Sanluri with a very ancient agricultural tradition. The very name derives from the words logu de lori, the place of wheat: an evident homage to the fertility of the land that produced it, in the past and present, an ideal place for all kinds of crops.

Geographically, Sanluri is part of the Marmilla region, an ancient land dotted with prehistoric settlements, an economic and strategic point of reference for centuries and as such well defended as can be seen in the many remains of fortresses built to defend towns, plateaus and hills. Here, in the slow passing of time, Prenuragic, Nuragic, Punic and Roman peoples alternated and superimposed themselves one on the other. Then in the Middle Ages came the people of Arborea with their coat of arms bearing a tree with its roots exposed and the Aragonese with the yellow and red of the Catalan banners. And then came the Piemontese, the Kingdom of Sardinia, and up to today.Every population has left signs of its presence, sometimes hidden among the ears of wheat on farmland and sometimes standing out like the nuragic fortresses of Barumini and Mogoro or the medieval castles of Las Plassas and Sanluri.A place where history has never stopped to rest. A land that is hilly but with slopes so gentle as to suggest to the ancient inhabitants a mother’s breast, and this is the origin of the Marmilla place name. Still today, on walking through our vineyards we can breathe the tranquillity and joy of long-ago memories that link us to our infancy.Today, the gentle slopes of these hills play host to our vineyards. From our work and enthusiasm come to light the wines that the Su’entu Winery produces for you.

When a dream becomes reality. To turn a dream into reality there must be the passion to do so and the entrepreneurial capacity to bring it to life. The Su’entu Winery is the result of Salvatore Pilloni’s dream, the dream of putting into production the rolling hills that every day attracted his attention and stimulated his imagination. Ancient lands with a wealth of history and traditions, ideal for grape growing.Today that dream is Su’entu and gives its name to all our wines. We chose to identify our wines only through the name of the company. This is because we want to emphasize the close bond to our land and underscore that all our wines come exclusively from our vineyards. The wines we proudly bottle are the result of teamwork. A team composed of farmers, workers, the wine-making expert and all those who work in our wine cellar. Many people, but all with a single objective: the production of high-quality wines destined to conquer the palate and heart of those who

Page 23: Brochure Su'entu autunno 2014

love good wine.In our bottles you will find not only excellent wines, but also something more profound: a dream come true, the hard work and passion of all those who every day put their hearts and souls into the growth of the Su’entu Winery.

Development and promotion. But Su’entu means not only good wine and respect for the land and tradition: it also means development and promotion.Su’entu means development: thanks to a project for expansion our goal is to make our winery the point of reference for tourism based on the wine and food of our land and a centre of social and cultural gatherings.Su’entu means accentuation of history: this through the project for restoration of the nuraghe on our lands.Su’entu means promotion of the land: this thanks to an increase in accommodations for visitors in rural areas.Today, the entire family is involved in developing the project and is determined to make the dream brought by the wind come true.

The road to Su’entu. The winery is just a few kilometres from Sanluri in the area known as Nuraxi Pusceddu. It has an extension of fifty hectares, of which thirty-two are vineyards. The area, mostly hilly, has a long tradition of vineyard cultivation.

The vineyards have some 160.000 cuttings trained with a Vertical Shoot Position system. Drip irrigation helps the vines during the dry season.Varieties: Bovale Sardo, Cagnulari, Cannonau, Chardonnay, Falanghina, Nasco, Merlot, Monica, Moscato, Syrah and Vermentino.

In the next few years all our efforts will go into the production of high-quality wines with a strong territorial connotation on the one hand and the promotion of the territory and an increase in tourist accommodations on the other. We are sure that the path we have chosen will take us a long way and hope you will take it with us, stopping now and again to taste one of our wines. For us, it will be an unforgettable experience, a commitment to quality and a wonderful adventure.
