1. GENERALITA’
1.1.1 Scheda base
La scheda base rappresenta il cuore delsistema, dove i segnali provenienti dalle sondevengono elaborati.
1. GENERALITY
The MICROCHILLER microprocessor control is asystem designed to control single or dualcompressor chillers and heat pumps. The system controls all the chiller or heatpump functions such as speed adjustment ofthe fans (based on condensing temperature),timing and alarms on the unit.
For customers needing absolute security, theMICROCHILLER microprocessor control can besupplied with removable User Interface; in thisway the operator controlling the installationcan also program the unit and afterwards, bytaking away the user interface (the controller isformed of two separate parts), can leave thepower board controlling the unit, in order toprevent unauthorized access to the software.
The MICROCHILLER microprocessor control, bythe use of an optional card, can be linked to acentralised computer so as to obtain remotesupervisory and/or telemaintenance services forremote control, supervision and maintenanceof the installations.
The MICROCHILLER microprocessor control isequipped with a memory for the functionsSUMMER-WINTER, ON-OFF and for all theparameters entered. This memory is enabledalso when the unit is switched off, thusenabling the unit, when it is switched back on,to be exactly in the same conditions as it wasbefore it was turned off.
1.1 HARDWARE CONFIGURATION
The MICROCHILLER microprocessor controlcontrol is based on two integrated systems:the base board including the controller, inputsand outputs, and the terminal section withfunction of user interface. The base andterminal components can be enhanced byadding optional cards allowing further auxiliaryfunctions.
1.1.1 Main board
The main card represents the system’s brain, where signals coming from the sensors areprocessed.

• il ponticello P1 relativo all’uscita analogicaY1 (vedi cap. 6)
On the card the following connection can beidentified, going from left to right:
• terminals G and G0 for the main supply(24Vac)
• analog inputs (from B1 to B3) for sensorconnections
• the 24V terminal (direct current) for thevoltage supply of any pressure sensors
• digital inputs (from ID1 to ID7) for thealarm connections
• the relay digital outputs to control thevarious devices connected
• analog output Y1, GND to connect theoptional cards controlling the condenserfans (ON/OFF or continuous speedadjustment)
• Telephone cable terminal for user terminalconnection
Three more areas can then be identified insidethe card:
• the SERIAL comb type terminal forconnection of a serial optional cardinterfacing with a centralised supervisorysystem and/or telemaintenance service.
• the KEY comb type terminal connecting anoptional card (removable hardware key) forthe instant programming of all the data
• the jumpers for selection of analog inputsoperating modes
• the P1 jumper related to the analog outputY1 (see chapter 6)
3
1.1.2 Scheda secondo compressore(espansione)
The card is designed to support two connectedterminals allowing data access from twodifferent points; viceversa operation is possibleeven without the connected terminals, ensuring total data security.
1.1.2 Second compressor card (expansion)
This board is an expansion of the main card, that is needed for the management of asecond compressor or for the management ofthe capacity-step of the first one (semi-hermetic compressor); in this case the“COMP.2” terminal connection only (used topilot the related solenoid valve) must beconnected.
The connection areas are the following(clockwise):
• analog inputs (B4 and B5) for the probesconnection (relative to the second circuit)
• 24V terminal (with D.C.) for the supply ofany pressure probe
• digital inputs (from ID8 to ID11) for safetyconnection (relative to the second circuit)
• digital relay outputs to manage anycontrolled device

4. ALLARMI E SEGNALAZIONI
4.1 GENERALITA’
4. ALARMS AND SIGNALS
4.1 GENERALITY
At any time that an alarm condition is detectedthe following actions will be prompted:- the buzzer sounds;- the alarm relay is energized;- the temperature value displayed blinks;- the yellow LED on the single compressor card
will blink with increased frequency;- the alarm code appears on the display
alternatively with the temperature value.
When an alarm condition has been cleared(either manually or by pressing the CLEARbutton for 5 seconds) the controller will restorenormal working conditions:- the buzzer turns off;- the alarm relay is de-energized;- the temperature value blinks no longer;- the yellow LED blinks at the normal
frequency;- the alarm code disappears from the display.
Should the alarm condition persist, the actionsdescribed above will occur again.
4.2 DIGITAL INPUT ALARMS
The machine has alarms that are detected byexternal digital contacts (24Vac); these alarmsdo not appear if the machine is in standby.

4.2.1 High pressure alarmThe alarm appears irrespective of pump andcompressor state. The compressor is turnedOFF immediately (ignoring protection timeintervals set previously). Fans are activated atmax. speed for 60s to face the alarm situation. After this period fans are stopped (in case oftwo compressor units with only one fan circuit, after 60s the fans are not stopped butmanaged according to the circuittemperature/pressure where the alarmcondition is not present).
4.2.2 Low pressure alarmThe alarm condition is detected only if therelative compressor is ON, regardless the pumpstatus. The compressors are forced into theOFF mode immediately (previously setprotection time-intervals are ignored) and atthe same time the buzzer, the alarm relay andthe lighting of the display are activated.

4.3 Allarme antigelo
4.2.3 Compressor overload alarmThe alarm condition is detected regardless ofpump and compressor status. The compressorsare forced into the OFF mode (previously setprotection time-intervals are ignored) and atthe same time the buzzer, the alarm relay andthe lighting of the display are activated.
4.2.4 Flow switch alarmThe alarm condition is detected only if thepump is ON, regardless of compressor status. All the outputs disenergize: pump, compressor(previously set OFF routines are ignored),condenser fan and at the same time thebuzzer, the alarm relay and the lighting of thedisplay are activated. The control of waterchillers (H1≠0, 1) as well as the water pump(H5≠0) must be enabled.
In Air/Air units (H1=0, 1), the digital input isused to detect any inlet fan overload; theprocedures are the same as those performed incase of the pump overload alarm.

If the temperature exceeds the set threshold, the heater turns off and all the other devicesremain off until a reset procedure (pressCLEAR for 5).
The antifreeze alarm appears either in theCooling or Heating functioning mode.Should the microprocessor be in standby thealarm condition is not detected but it controlsand manages only the system’s heaters.
In the direct-expansion units, alarm is used todetect any low ambient temperature by meansof probes. The low ambient temperature alarmappears either when the unit is in the Coolingoperating mode or in the Heating operatingmode; this alarm activates the buzzer, thealarm relay and the lighting of the display butit is not detected when the unit is in stand-by.
